background
If your car is showing the P2614 engine code, there’s likely an issue with your camshaft sensor. Without this working correctly, your engine control module won’t be able to control your engine’s fuel injection.
Diagnostic trouble codes (DTCs) help car owners and mechanics identify problems within your car’s engine. It’s important to
understand what different OBD codes
mean so you can figure out what is wrong with your car in a timely manner.

What does the engine code P2614 mean?

Definition: Camshaft position signal output circuit open
A P2614 indicates there is an issue with the
camshaft’s sensor
. The code can be triggered when an incorrect amount of voltage is detected from the camshaft position signal output circuit.
This sensor is an electronic device that records the rate at which your camshaft is rotating. The ECM (Engine Control Module) then uses this information to control your engine’s ignition and fuel injection.
The sensor consists of two parts: a rotating disc and the actual sensor, which doesn’t rotate.

How much will it cost to fix?

The diagnosis process should only take a mechanic one hour. An hour of labor is likely to cost between $75 and $150
If the issue is with the camshaft sensor, you can expect to pay between $95 and $200 to replace it.

What can cause the P2614 engine code?

There are four likely causes of the P2614 engine code. They are:
  • The camshaft sensor is broken or failing.
  • The wires connecting the sensor are broken or shorted.
  • The electrical connectors are damaged.
  • There is a blown fuse.
These issues often result from fluid leaks, which can damage these
electrical components
.
There is a chance the issue lies with the ECM, but that is less likely.

Common symptoms of the P2614 engine code

The most obvious symptom will be the
check engine light turning on
Other symptoms include the car not turning on, poor engine performance, slow acceleration, and stalling.
If you get a check engine light or have any of these performance issues, you should
take your car to a mechanic
for a diagnostic inspection.

How serious is the P2614 engine code?

The severity of a P2614 depends on what is wrong. For example, the code can be triggered by a minor malfunction in the camshaft sensor. In this case, there’s nothing wrong with your car.
However, the code can also mean your ECM is not receiving the necessary information from the camshaft sensor, which will cause the vehicle not to deliver fuel properly. This can lead to worse fuel economy and engine troubles. In severe cases,
your car won’t even start
.
Get your car checked by a mechanic if you receive the P2614 engine code.

Can I fix the P2614 engine code myself?

If the code was a mistake, you won’t need to take the car to a shop. If the code does not reappear after resetting the computer and restarting your vehicle, it was likely a fluke and you should be good to go.
If the code reappears, though, there is likely a real issue. You’ll need to get your camshaft sensor replaced or fix the wiring around it. If this sounds too complex for you, it’s time to turn to a professional.
