What is the right tire pressure for a Dodge Ram 1500?

The recommended tire pressure for the Dodge Ram 1500 depends on the model year and trim. The 2010 Dodge Ram was the last one marketed, and for the Laramie, SLT, Sport, and ST trims, the pressure is 35 psi for both rear and front tires. If you own a TRX or TRX4, the tire pressure is 35 psi for the front tires and 45 psi for the rears.
If you don’t own a 2010 Dodge Ram, here is the breakdown for the most recent models and trims:

Remember, your recommended tire pressure can change if you upgrade your tires from the factory-issue ones your Dodge Ram comes with. If you’re off-roading, Dodge recommends “airing down” to improve traction and comfort for some terrain types. Be sure to return pressure to normal levels when you’re back on regular roads.

How to check Dodge Ram 1500 tire pressure

Dodge suggests using a good-quality tire pressure gauge to read your tire pressure. Don’t have a pressure gauge handy? If you have a portable tire inflator, you can use that as well or pay a visit to a service station.
Your Dodge Ram 1500 may also be equipped with an electronic vehicle information center—if this happens, use the up or down buttons until you get a display of the TPMS which should tell you the current pressure for all tires.
Tire pressure should always be set based on cold inflation tire pressure, which is 34 psi (unless you’re off-roading or you mod your tires). You can double-check this information on the B-pillar of the driver-side door frame or on your owner’s manual.
Your Dodge has a tire pressure monitoring system (TPMS) that will warn you if pressure drops beyond recommended levels. You’ll know there’s an issue when your tire pressure monitoring telltale lamp turns on in the instrument cluster. If this happens, you should stop driving as soon as possible and check the pressure on all tires.

How often should you check tire pressure?

Dodge suggests you check your tire pressure once a month. You should look for unusual wear and tear while you do so as well. Of course, you should also be checking your tire pressure if you sense a difference in performance while driving, or if your pressure light comes on.
Tire pressure can change with temperature, so don’t be too worried if your pressure light comes on unexpectedly after a temperature drop. Dodge says the tire pressure on your Ram can vary by roughly 1 psi for every 12°F.

How to tell if your Dodge Ram 1500 needs new tires

Your tires’ service life depends on different things such as your driving style, the distance you’ve driven, and of course, your tire pressure. Dodge recommends having your tires and spare tire replaced after six years of usage.
You should do this regardless of the remaining tread—not replacing your tires on time can cause tire failure and potential accidents in the future.

How to reset the Dodge Ram 1500 tire pressure monitoring system (TPMS) light

Your TPMS is supposed to warn you as long as there’s an issue with the tire pressure levels, but sometimes it may not turn off even after you correct it.
Usually, this is because the system hasn’t received updated tire pressure information yet. If you drive the vehicle for up to 20 minutes above 15 mph, the TPMS will get the updated information and the light should turn off.
If the light stays on despite you double-checking that there’s proper pressure in all four tires, you should try resetting your TPMS. To do this:
  • Switch on the ignition without starting the vehicle.
  • Find the TPMS reset button—it should be to the right of the steering wheel.
  • Press and hold the TPMS reset button until the pressure light blinks three times, then release it.
  • Start the engine and let it run for 20 minutes.
  • Drive for 10 minutes at 50 mph or higher—ideally go on a highway for this step.
The warning light should be gone after you reset the TPMS. If there is still an issue, you should take the vehicle to a dealer or mechanic to get the problem fixed. There may be an issue with the sensors or a defect in the TPMS.

How to save on Dodge Ram 1500 insurance

Reduced tire pressure increases the risk of tire damage and can even cause it to unseat. Properly inflating your tires can often help avoid this and reduce wear and tear, meaning you’ll have to replace your tires less frequently and save big while doing so.
