Dodge Durango climate control reset instructions

For most common Durango climate control issues, there’s a simple fix—just reset the system! It’s one of the easiest
car repairs
once you know how to do it. Follow these steps to reset your climate control system:
Step 1: Turn the car on and change the setting to panel. Start your Dodge Durango and change the AC setting to “panel,” which is the setting that directs the AC only to the upper blowers.
Step 2: Press and hold the correct two buttons. On the far left side of the central control panel, you’ll see three buttons. Press and hold down the top button (which controls the rear wiper) and the bottom button (which controls the rear wiper washer fluid).
Step 3: Wait for the calibration to begin. After a few seconds, the AC light will begin to flash. Once the light starts to flash, release the two buttons. The light will turn off and then back on—then it will begin blinking. Once that happens, press the AC button.
That will reset the AC system, which will resolve most of the common issues that can happen in your climate control system.

Other reasons your Dodge Durango A/C isn’t working

If the problem isn’t fixed by resetting the climate control system, you’re probably dealing with a more serious issue. The most common issues that might be affecting your Dodge Durango include the following:

Dirty cabin air filter

The air filter that keeps pollen and debris out of your cabin needs to be replaced every 10,000-20,000 miles. If it’s been too long since you changed the filter, it can cause your system to blow weakly or not at all.

Dirty or clogged condenser

Over time, the condenser in your system will become dirty and/or clogged. When this happens, your system will not be able to effectively regulate the interior temperature in your cabin. Cleaning it should resolve the issue—but will require the services of a trained professional.

Insufficient refrigerant

One common cause of climate control failure is insufficient refrigerant. This can be caused by a leak or simply by the gradual decline in refrigerant (which will happen after a few years). If your refrigerant gets too low, your climate control system won’t turn on at all.

Bad blower motor

If there’s no air coming from your climate control system at all, you may have a bad blower motor. Replacing the motor will resolve this issue.

Faulty blend door actuator

The blend door or “blend door actuator” is responsible for regulating the temperature inside your cabin. If the blend door is faulty, your system will create erratic and unpredictable temperatures.

How to diagnose a Dodge Durango climate control malfunction

There are various possible issues that could be causing trouble with your Durango’s climate control system. If resetting the system doesn’t resolve matters, then you’re probably dealing with a more serious issue.
The best way to know for sure what is causing your AC problems is by using an OBDII scanning device. You can
read the OBD scanner to get a trouble code
that will tell you the exact issue. Otherwise, you take your car to a mechanic and have a professional mechanic diagnose your problem.
