Dodge Charger Spare Tire Guide

Tire service kits are becoming the modern spare tire. While the Dodge Charger doesn’t come with a spare wheel, it does have a service kit that includes a patch.

The
Dodge Charger
doesn’t come with a spare tire. So, if you’ve got a leak or a flat, you’ll have to reach for the car’s included Tire Service Kit instead.
  • Dodge Chargers are equipped with a Tire Service Kit to help you patch your tire long enough to get you to a mechanic and get a replacement.
  • The Dodge Charger Tire Service Kit is a temporary solution to flat or punctured tires—it will only last 100 miles, and only at reduced driving speeds.
  • You should replace your Tire Service Kit after each use at a Dodge dealership.

Where to find the Dodge Charger spare tire kit

No matter which trim of the Charger you have—from the humble SXT to the wild-child Scat Pack and SRT Hellcat Redeye Widebody Jailbreak—it won’t come with a spare tire.
Most car manufacturers—including
Dodge
—have started to switch from full-size spare tires in the trunk to tire patching kits. This is mostly to cut down on the weight of the vehicle, which can help boost fuel economy, and is especially important in performance vehicles like the Charger—which gains a lot more power by shedding weight.
Instead of a spare tire or donut, Chargers will have a Tire Service Kit located behind the rear cargo trim panel.
The Tire Service Kit contains:
  • Sealant and air hoses
  • Hose accessories
  • Sealant bottle
  • Power plug and switch
  • Deflation button
  • Pressure gauge
Any puncture in your tire up to a quarter-inch wide can be sealed using the kit.
But it’s only a temporary fix: You can drive up to 100 miles with the tire sealed, and you can only go up to 50 miles per hour. The service kit is just so you can seal your tire long enough to get it to a mechanic and get the tire replaced.

How to use the Dodge Charger Tire Service Kit

If your tire is leaking air through a small puncture, you can repair it using your Tire Service Kit.
Don’t remove anything that’s lodged in the tire itself—you can still use the kit to seal the hole.
However, in the case of bigger
holes
or a blowout, it’s best to call roadside assistance.
Here are the steps to follow to use your Tire Service Kit:
  • Step 1: Make sure you are parked in a safe location before attempting to patch your tire.
  • Step 2: Uncoil the sealant hose and remove the cap from the end.
  • Step 3: Remove the cap from the tire valve stem and place the end of the sealant hose over the stem.
  • Step 4: Uncoil the power plug and insert it into the car’s 12 volt power outlet.
  • Step 5: Switch the mode select knob to the “sealant mode” position.
  • Step 6: Start your car then turn the Tire Service Kit on.
  • Step 7: When you push the “power” button, the sealant will flow into the tire.
