What if there’s no paint code on the car’s label?

Let’s say you can’t find your paint code on your Acura’s manufacturer’s label. Don’t panic! You can instead use your 17-character Vehicle Identification Number (VIN) to find the paint code
You can find the VIN in a couple of different places:
  • On your title, registration, or insurance papers
  • On the service tag, located on the driver’s side doorjamb
  • On the dashboard tag, located on the driver’s side of the dashboard, beneath the vehicle’s hood where the dashboard meets the front windshield
Now that you’ve got your VIN written down, you can give your local Acura dealership a call or search online to get the paint code you need

Paint touch-up tips

Once you’ve got your paint at the ready, it’s time to get down to business! Here are a couple of tips for painting your Acura:
  • Make sure you’re painting on a day that is 50 degrees or warmer—anything colder could mess with the color
  • Prep the damaged area with soap, water, and a wax and grease remover
  • Sand away any rust with a wire brush or gritty sandpaper
  • Coat the area with primer, and let it dry overnight. Once dry, lightly sand again
  • Paint the area with your Acura paint, waiting 20 minutes between each coat. Once you’ve built up enough color, allow the final coat to dry overnight. If you’re painting in temperatures below 70 degrees, you may need to let the last coat dry a little longer.
  • Finally, add a clear coat and allow it to dry for at least three days
For an extra gleam, you can also rub down the area with a rubbing compound once it’s dried. Should you opt for this extra step, be sure to use a soft microfiber towel or an old t-shirt—not a paper towel—and to rub in circular motions
