The 2020
Chrysler Pacifica
has always been a popular minivan—spacious seating and storage combined with good fuel economy makes this model the stuff of crossover and SUV dreams. In order to keep that dream rolling, though, you must know its engine oil capacity.
Even though the fuel economy of the 2020 Chrysler Pacifica is good, the current gas prices still ensure your fill-up costs a pretty penny. Add that on top of regular maintenance, any unexpected repairs,
car insurance
, and owning a car gets to be quite expensive.
But you can
save money on car expenses
by changing your car’s oil at home (or garage)! To help you do just that, the

2020 Chrysler Pacifica engine oil capacity

Before anything else, we need to establish the engine oil capacity of the 2020 Chrysler Pacifica.
The 3.6-liter V6 engine in the 2020 Chrysler Pacifica has an oil capacity of 5 quarts or 4.7 liters. Be careful not to get the engine displacement value—3.6 liters—confused with the engine oil capacity. The engine displacement value refers to the volume taken up by the engine cylinders.
The engine oil capacity refers to how much oil your engine needs.

What kind of oil does a 2020 Chrysler Pacifica need?

After you note how much oil is needed for your Pacifica, we can talk about the kind of oil it needs. You won’t be able to pick out just any oil for your vehicle as each vehicle’s engine is designed to function with a specific type of oil.
The owner’s manual for a 2020 Chrysler Pacifica recommends Mopar SAE 0W-20 engine oil, so make sure you look for that grading when buying your oil. The grade of each kind of oil specifies its viscosity levels in both cold and hot temperatures. The 0 followed by the W indicates a low viscosity in cold temperatures—the W stands for winter
The next value, 20, indicates the thickness of the oil at high temperatures, like the standard operating temperature of your engine.
It’s important to get the right rated oil so that it will perform well across weather conditions and cause less
wear and tear on your car engine
. Synthetic or conventional oil will do for the 2020 Chrysler Pacifica, as long as it matches the correct viscosity rating of 0W-20.

How often to change oil on a 2020 Chrysler Pacifica

Now that we’ve covered the amount and kind of oil needed, we can get started on the process to change your oil!
Chrysler recommends an oil change every 3,000 to 5,000 miles or every six months for an easier-to-remember benchmark. If you drive very often or not often at all, the time between your oil changes may be different. More so, synthetic oil has a longer lifespan than conventional oil.
Regardless of how close you are to your next oil change, it’s a good idea to check your oil quality once a month. Pull out the oil dipstick to make sure your oil is at an appropriate level and still resembles an amber color. Otherwise, you can keep your eyes and nose out for signs of bad oil:
  • Unfamiliar noises coming from the engine
  • New smells, especially anything that smells like oil, smoke, or burning
  • Changes in your vehicle’s performance

How to change your oil and oil filter

Once your Chrysler Pacifica is due for an oil change, grab these tools and materials: a socket wrench, drain pan, filter wrench, replacement oil filter, and five quarts of 0W-20 engine oil
Your engine oil needs to be warmed up before you start draining it, so take a short drive around the block or let your car idle for five to ten minutes. Once the oil reaches its normal operating temperature, park your
Chrysler
on a level surface and
open the hood
to follow these steps:
  • Remove the oil fill cap.
  • Get underneath the engine with the drain pan and socket wrench and remove the oil drain bolt and washer to let the oil start to drain.
  • Use the filter wrench to remove the old oil filter and continue to let the oil drain completely.
  • Install the replacement oil filter.
  • Replace the oil drain bolt using a new washer and tighten it to 29 lb-ft.
  • Refill the engine with five quarts of 0W-20 oil and replace the fill cap.
Check the oil level on the dipstick and run the engine for a minute to make sure nothing is leaking. Then make sure the
dashboard’s oil pressure light
is off, and you’re all set!
When going through your clean-up process, be sure to pour the old oil into a sealed container so you can bring it to your local recycling center for disposal. Do not just dump the oil into a garbage can or anywhere on the ground.
After changing your oil, it’s a good idea to turn on your car and let your engine run for about 30 seconds before you check the oil level. This will give you a more accurate measurement, and you’ll be able to top it off if necessary.

Don't forget regular insurance policy maintenance

Keeping to a regular oil change schedule for your 2020 Chrysler Pacifica will help keep health and longevity in your engine’s systems, so you’re paying less in maintenance and repair costs over the years.
