2019 Toyota Tacoma engine oil capacity

Before you run to the store to grab new engine oil, you need to know how much to get.
The 2019 Toyota Tacoma has an oil capacity of 6.2 quarts or around 5.9 liters. When you’re changing your oil, you’ll need to purchase enough to completely fill your oil reservoir. If you don’t, it can lead to engine damage down the road.

What kind of oil does a 2019 Toyota Tacoma need?

There are tons of different engine oil options, so you’ll need to know what kind of oil works best for your Tacoma. Toyota recommends a high-quality synthetic or synthetic blend 0W-20 engine oil, and it’s important to follow the manufacturer’s recommendations.
So what about conventional oil? While conventional is cheaper and would technically work in your Tacoma, it doesn’t last as long as synthetic oil. It also won’t protect your engine from gunk and debris build-up. For your Tacoma to operate at peak condition, it’s best to stick with Toyota’s recommendations.

How often to change oil on a 2019 Toyota Tacoma

Now that you know exactly what type of oil to get and how much you need, it’s time to decide if your Tacoma needs an oil change.
According to the recommended maintenance schedule for a Toyota, you'll want to change your oil every 3,000 to 5,000 miles. This keeps your engine oil clean and free of grime, grit, and debris.
However, you might be able to wait a little longer between changes if you’re using synthetic or a synthetic blend oil. Synthetic oils can last between 7,500 and 10,000 miles before they need to be changed.
To make sure you know exactly when your oil needs to be changed, check your oil level and clarity regularly. If your reservoir is running low, the oil is a dark brown or black color, or it feels coarse or gritty if you rub it between your fingers, it’s time for a change.
There are other signs your vehicle needs an oil change, including:
  • Unfamiliar or
    loud engine noise
  • New smells, like oil, smoke, or burning
  • Any changes in your vehicle’s performance

How to change your oil and oil filter

Once your Tacoma needs an oil change, just gather the tools you’ll need, including a socket wrench, drain pan, filter wrench, a replacement filter, and 6.2 quarts of engine oil.
First, you’ll want to run your engine for a while. This will heat up your oil and make it easier to drain. Once your vehicle reaches normal operating temperature, shut the engine off and
open the hood
To change the oil, follow these steps:
  • Remove the oil fill cap
  • Place the drain pan underneath the vehicle and remove the oil drain bolt
  • While the oil is draining, remove the old oil filter
  • Install the new filter
  • Replace the oil drain bolt after all the old oil has drained out
  • Refill the reservoir with your new oil and replace the fill cap
After changing your oil, it’s a good idea to turn on your car and let your engine run for about 30 seconds before you check the oil level. This will give you a more accurate measurement, and you’ll be able to top it off if necessary. At this point, your engine
oil pressure light
should switch off.
After you’ve finished, you’ll want to clean up the area where you were working and properly dispose of the old engine oil. Pour it into a sealed container and take it to a designated recycling facility—don’t dump it on the ground or throw it in the trash!
