2019 Ram 1500 engine oil capacity

The first step to complete an oil change is to find out your engine’s oil capacity. If you get confused by the different numbers, remember that engine displacement does not equal engine oil capacity
Engine displacement, or the numerical volume taken up by your engine’s cylinders, differs from oil capacity, the amount of oil your Ram needs each time you get an oil change.
Now that we’ve distinguished between the two, let’s get right down to it: how much engine oil does your 2019 Ram 1500 need?
Your 2019 Ram 1500 5.7L engine has an oil capacity of 7 quarts, or 6.6 liters

What kind of oil does a 2019 Ram 1500 need?

So you know how much oil your Ram needs, but what kind of oil can you fill it with? To make things easy, stick to what the experts recommend: SAE 5W-20 Engine Oil.
If the name of that oil looks like gibberish to you, don’t fret—we’ll break down what it all means.
The “5” signifies how viscous the oil is. The better an oil can perform at a lower temperature, the lower the number will be. With a 5 directly preceding the “W”, this oil will perform well and flow more easily than oils in the 10W and 20W range.
Next, the “W” stands for winter, showing that the oil will perform at lower temperatures.
Finally, the “20” refers to how well the oil will flow at higher temperatures. The lower the number, the thinner the oil, and the better the oil will flow. With oil grades that can reach the 50s and higher, you can assume that an oil with “20” will flow with ease.
What about synthetic motor oil? As long as you choose a high-quality oil that meets the same requirements (5W-20), you can use it in your vehicle.

How often to change oil on a 2019 Ram 1500

You’ve figured out your Ram 1500’s oil capacity, picked up your oil of choice, and now you’re ready to
change your oil
. So how do you know when to change it?
In general,
Chrysler
recommends changing out your oil every 3,000 to 5,000 miles. However, if your car sits in the driveway most of the time, you can abide by the six-month benchmark to ensure your oil stays clean.
If you opted for a synthetic oil, you can let some more miles pass before changing out your oil—specifically, 7,500 to 10,000 miles. While timeframes and mile benchmarks are an easy way to keep track of your oil, you should also check your oil level to ensure you’re changing it out at the correct time.
Once a month, check your oil and look for the following signs that it's time for an oil change:

How to change your oil and oil filter

Is it time to change your oil? Have a socket wrench, drain pan, and filter wrench at the ready. Don’t forget your engine oil and replacement filter!
Before you dive in, start by letting your engine run so it can heat up to its operating temperature. After roughly five minutes, you can turn the engine off, open up the hood, and follow the steps below:
  • Remove the oil fill cap
  • Locate the oil drain bolt and washer under the engine
  • Drain the old oil into your drain pan
  • Remove the old oil filter and allow the remaining oil to drain
  • Replace the oil drain bolt with a new washer
  • Install the new filter and refill the engine with the new oil
  • Replace the fill cap
To double-check that you’ve added the right amount of oil to the engine, measure the oil level with a dipstick. After a few minutes, the
oil pressure light
on your dashboard should turn off.
After changing your oil, it’s a good idea to turn on your car and let your engine run for about 30 seconds before you check the oil level. This will give you a more accurate measurement, and you’ll be able to top it off if necessary.
Before you hit the road, remember to properly dispose of the dirty oil. To do so, seal the oil in a container and bring it to a local recycling center.
