2019 Ram 1500 5.7 engine oil capacity

For our new DIY oil changers out there, the first question to ask yourself is: How much oil does my Ram 1500 need? The answer is seven quarts. Your second question is probably: Then, what is this 5.7?
Your Ram is a 5.7-liter engine, and 5.7 is the truck's engine displacement or how much volume the cylinders take up. The oil engine capacity is how much oil the engine can hold, which is the amount you need to buy.

What kind of oil does a 2019 Ram 1500 5.7 engine need?

Since you want to keep your Ram in top condition, only follow the manufacturer's recommendation, Mopar SAE 5W-20.
Let's take a closer look at what this means for your truck. Viscosity, or thickness of the oil, is what matters most, and your vehicle was designed to handle an oil that is thin in cold and warm weather. The lower the number, the thinner the oil. With W, meaning winter, 5W is one of the thinner oils on the market for cold temperatures and easy engine start-ups. The 20 is the viscosity grade of the oil when it hits 212°F
There are a few types of motor oil on the market: full synthetic, synthetic blend, and conventional. Going outside of the manufacturer's recommendation may potentially void warranties, so only do it if you know how it will impact your Ram. That said, here are the most popular engine oils for your 2019 Ram 1500:

How often to change oil on a 2019 Ram 1500 5.7

Dodge
recommends changing your oil every 3,000 to 5,000 miles, but this can vary depending on how hard you work your Ram. A Ram used for standard commuting with a full synthetic oil can get away with oil changes every 7,500 to 10,000 miles. But, it will need to be changed sooner if you are hauling heavy loads around bumpy work sites.
One best practice for truck lovers is to check your oil at every other fuel-up. This way, you can see for yourself when it is time for that oil change. Here is what to look for:
  • Dirty motor oil is dark brown or black; change your oil if it is dark, like a cup of soda
  • New sounds coming from the engine
  • New smells, especially anything that smells like oil, burning, or
    smoke from the engine
  • Changes in your vehicle's performance

How to change your oil and oil filter

Ok, oil change time! You will need the following materials:
  • Seven quarts of synthetic 5W-20 engine oil
  • Socket wrench
  • Drain pan
  • Filter Wrench
  • Replacement filter
  • New washer
Find a level location for your oil change. It's best to change the oil while it is warm and at its thinnest viscosity, so run the Ram for about five minutes. Then, turn off the engine, pop the hood, and follow these steps:
  • Take off the oil fill cap
  • Go under the truck and slide the draining pan under the engine
  • Remove the oil drain bolt, washer, and filter
  • Once the oil is finished draining, install the new filter
  • Replace the oil drain bolt using a new washer and tighten it to 29 lb-ft
Crawl out from under your truck and refill the engine with the new oil. And you’re done! It is good to let your truck run for a few minutes to check for leaks and to allow your
check engine light
to turn off.
After changing your oil, it’s a good idea to turn on your car and let your engine run for about 30 seconds before you check the oil level. This will give you a more accurate measurement, and you’ll be able to top it off if necessary.
The last part is cleaning up. The safest way to dispose of the old oil is to carefully pour it back into the empty oil containers from the drain pan. You can then drop it off at your local recycling center or check with your local
AutoZone
or
Advance Auto Parts
. Most locations have an oil recycling program. Mother Nature will thank you!
