The zero at the start simply means zero degrees Fahrenheit, and the “W” means “winter.” This means the engine’s “0W” oil moves better when it’s cold out than, say, a 1W oil would.
The “20” in the motor oil grade refers to the speed at which the oil moves through the engine when it's super hot—at 212 degrees. You might see some mechanics use a higher number if you live in a hot or tropical climate, like Arizona or the Virgin Islands.
“Full synthetic” means this oil is man-made. It’s usually made using crude oil, but it’s chemically modified and purified to work better in modern vehicles.

How to change your oil and oil filter

!This is a super easy DIY project anyone can do at home. It can get messy and you won’t get through this without getting your hands dirty, so no one gets to judge you if you’d rather pay an expert to do this. But if you’re interested in saving some money on labor, this is very simple.
Here are the general steps you’ll want to follow:
- Buy fully synthetic 0W-20 motor oil (SAE 5W-20 for the 5.7L engine) and an oil filter. Remember, you need 6 (or 7) quarts, so you may need to buy more than one container
- Get a socket wrench, a drain pan, and a filter wrench. You can buy these things at any auto parts store, and they pay for themselves after changing your own oil!
- Run the engine until it reaches its normal operating temperature. This heats the oil up enough that it flows more easily, but not so hot that you get burned
- Remove the oil fill cap on the top side of the engine
- Place your drain pan underneath the oil drain bolt, then remove the bolt and the washer. You should replace the washer with each oil change
- Remove the old oil filter and wait until the old oil is fully drained
- Install your new oil filter
- Reinstall the bolt and the new washer, tightening it to 29 foot-pounds
- Refill the engine’s motor oil, then pop the oil fill cap back on.
You’re just about done. Now you just need to check the dipstick to make sure you’ve added enough oil, then run the engine for a few minutes to make sure nothing is leaking. The

on your Jeep’s dashboard will turn off soon if everything is working.After changing your oil, it’s a good idea to turn on your car and let your engine run for about 30 seconds before you check the oil level. This will give you a more accurate measurement, and you’ll be able to top it off if necessary.
Take your old, dirty motor oil in a sealed container to a recycling center. You can’t just toss used motor oil in the trash or dump it on the ground.
