2017 Chrysler Pacifica engine oil capacity

Your 2017 Chrysler Pacifica’s engine requires exactly 5 quarts or about 4.7 liters of oil every time you
change the oil and filter
.
The 2017 Chrysler Pacifica has a 3.6-liter V6 engine, which means its displacement is 3.6 liters — not its oil capacity. Don’t confuse your Pacifica’s engine oil capacity with its displacement: the combined swept volume of the pistons inside the engine’s cylinders.

What kind of oil does a 2017 Chrysler Pacifica need?

A 2017 Pacifica takes SAE 0W-20 oil. “SAE” stands for “Society of Automotive Engineers,” which is the institution that assigns viscosity ratings. The “W” stands for “winter,” and the number before the “W” describes the oil’s viscosity at 0 degrees Fahrenheit, while the number after the “W” describes the oil’s viscosity at 212 degrees Fahrenheit.
You’re welcome to use synthetic or conventional oil in your Chrysler, but remember that this will affect how long you can go between oil changes.
In general, it’s a good rule of thumb to remember that fully synthetic oil is the highest quality option, and therefore the safest option for your engine. We recommend Mobil 1 Full Synthetic Engine Oil 0W-20.

How often to change the oil on a 2017 Chrysler Pacifica

So how do you know if you’re ready to change your oil? Well, your vehicle will likely have an
oil pressure light
that indicates it's time for an oil change, but it’s helpful to be able to predict when that light will switch on.
If you’re using conventional oil, Chrysler recommends changing your oil every 3,000 to 5,000 miles or approximately every 3 to 6 months, depending on how many daily miles you put on your minivan.
Upgrading to synthetic oil allows you to spread out your oil changes to once every 7,500 to 10,000 miles, which could be less than twice per year, on average.
In addition to following a
basic car maintenance schedule
, you can find out if it’s time for an oil change simply by checking your oil. We recommend making a regular habit of using your dipstick to check your oil levels, and keeping an eye out for the following signs that your oil needs changing:
  • Darkly colored oil (brown or black, like Coca-Cola) rather than amber-colored oil (like iced tea)
  • The oil has a coarse, gritty, or sandy feeling
  • Unusual engine noises
  • Unusual smoky or burned smells
  • A change in your minivan’s performance

How to change your oil and oil filter

It’s time to get under your van’s hood and get to work! In addition to 5 quarts of 0W-20 oil (and perhaps an extra quart, just to be safe), you’ll need socket and filter wrenches, a drain pan, and a replacement oil filter.
Park your vehicle in a safe place like your driveway or garage. We recommend placing a large piece of cardboard on the ground to avoid staining, in case there are any oil leaks.
Turn on your car and let it run for a little while to warm up, then switch your engine off and pop open the hood. Next, remove the oil fill cap from your vehicle’s engine.
For the next step, you’ll need to crawl underneath your vehicle. From there, remove the oil drain bolt and washer, carefully allowing the old oil to drain into the drain pan. Once the oil slows, remove the old filter and wait a few more minutes for any remaining oil to drain.
Once the engine is empty, install the new filter and replace the drain bolt, using a new washer and tightening it to 29 lb-ft. Then, pour in 5 quarts of fresh oil, replace the cap, and close the hood.
It’s always a good idea to check your work! Run your vehicle again, this time checking for any leaks and keeping an eye on your oil pressure light. If you’ve done a good job, it should switch off after a few moments.
After changing your oil, it’s a good idea to turn on your car and let your engine run for about 30 seconds before you check the oil level. This will give you a more accurate measurement, and you’ll be able to top it off if necessary.
When you’re all done, be sure to dispose of the old engine oil responsibly at a nearby recycling center.
