2015 Nissan Sentra engine oil capacity

Let's start by addressing the main question: What is the 2015 Nissan Sentra’s engine oil capacity?
The 2015 Sentra has an oil capacity of exactly 4.2 quarts or 4 liters

What kind of oil does a 2015 Nissan Sentra need?

There are many varieties of engine oil out there today. It's very important that you use only the recommended type of oil for your car—using the wrong type could cause serious and even catastrophic engine damage.
For the 2015 Nissan Sentra, you’ll need fully-synthetic motor oil with a viscosity rating of 0W-20. If you're not sure what that means, don't worry—we'll go over it right now!
The various types of oil are differentiated primarily by their viscosity or thickness. Viscosity is always described in the same format—[1st number]W x [2nd number]
The two numbers tell you how viscous the oil is at different temperatures. The first number with the “W” beside it (W being an abbreviation for Winter) indicates how viscous the oil is at a “cold start” state—meaning at 0°F.  The second number describes how viscous the fluid is in normal operating temperature (NOT)—the temperature an engine reaches while driving. Although the exact NOT will vary a bit from car to car, when measuring viscosity, an engine’s NOT is 212°F
When you're shopping for fresh motor oil, you should look for any motor oils labeled fully synthetic and 0W-20.
  • The genuine article: Genuine Nissan 0W-20 Oil is the brand that Nissan makes themselves—as well as the one they recommend using.
  • The owners manual also says it is acceptable to us 5W-30 motor oil may be used as a short-term alternative if you are unable to find 0W-20 oil.

How often to change the oil in a 2015 Nissan Sentra

Typically, you should be changing your 2015 Nissan Sentra’s engine oil after every 5,000 miles of driving. Some car owners find it easier to keep track based on time, so every six months.
Be aware that you may occasionally need to change your oil ahead of schedule. If you encounter any issues with your oil, you should change it as soon as you can—regardless of how recently you've done so.
Here are the main warning signs that you should be watching out for when you check your oil every month or so.  If you notice any of them, change your oil as soon as you can:
  • Your Nissan Sentra’s performance has begun to decline.
  • There are banging or clattering noises coming from your engine.
  • There are strange smells—usually the
    smell of oil
, fire, or smoke—coming from your engine.
  • There are visible bits of debris or other contaminants in the oil.
  • The oil feels rough or grainy when you rub some between two fingers.
  • The oil has changed color from its original amber to black or a dark brown.

How to change your oil and oil filter

Now that you know what type of oil your Nissan Sentra needs, how often it needs to have its oil changed, and what its total engine oil capacity is, you're ready to start taking on your own oil changes!
When the time comes, ensure you have a filter wrench, a socket wrench, a drain pan, a fresh oil filter, and 4.2 quarts of fresh 0W-20 engine oil. Then, just follow these steps:
  • Step 1: Start your Sentra’s engine. Allow it to run for a few minutes until it reaches normal operating temperature. Then, shut off the engine and pull the hood release latch pop the hood.
  • Step 2Locate the oil fill cap in your engine, remove it, and set aside.
  • Step 3: Slide underneath the engine bay of your Nissan. With your back on the ground and your face turned up towards the engine, locate the oil drain bolt. Place the drain pan directly underneath the drain bolt. Remove the bolt and allow the oil to drain.
  • Step 4: It'll take a few minutes to drain completely. Meanwhile, use the filter wrench to remove the old filter. Once the oil is completely drained, install the new filter.
  • Step 5: Reattach the oil drain bolt and make sure it is securely tightened. Refill your engine using the fresh motor oil that you purchased. Then, put the oil fill cap back on
  • Step 6: Start your engine again, and allow it to run for a few more minutes—just in case there are leaks. If everything looks good, shut the engine off and close the hood.
After changing your oil, it’s a good idea to turn on your car and let your engine run for about 30 seconds before you check the oil level. This will give you a more accurate measurement, and you’ll be able to top it off if necessary.
And just like that, you have successfully changed your own oil! Congratulations! All that's left now is to clean up the mess and properly dispose of the old oil.
In most states, it’s illegal to dispose of the oil by pouring it down the drain, dumping it outside, or putting it in the trash. You'll need to seal it in a container (an old milk jug works great) and take it to a nearby recycling center when you have time.

Don’t forget regular insurance policy maintenance

Handling your Nissan's maintenance needs saves you money and gives you a sense of accomplishment—it makes you feel more in control of your car's well-being. Another great way to take charge of your car's maintenance is by staying up-to-date on its auto insurance policy maintenance.
The general rule of thumb is to review your car insurance policy at least once a year. Rates in the insurance industry change often—if you're not regularly checking, you’ll probably end up paying too much for your Nissan Sentra insurance.
