How to change the radio on a 2014 Dodge Ram 1500

Radio replacement on a 2014 Ram 1500 is a relatively simple process. You just need to remove the trim panel and four bolts before pulling out the stock stereo deck. After you complete those steps, you can replace the radio with your aftermarket system (we’ll provide four excellent options below).

When you’re ready to get started, grab a socket set, a T20 Torx driver, and a small pry bar or flathead screwdriver.

Note that some Ram trim options—like the Big Horn edition—have a floor-mounted center console. If you own one of these models, you must remove the center console before replacing the radio.

1. Remove the two upper dashboard trim panel retaining screws

There is a small storage tray on the top center of the radio bezel. Use your pry bar or a small flathead screwdriver for popping off the rubber mat that lines the tray.

Underneath the liner, there are two T20 Torx screws. Remove these two screws and set them aside.

2. Remove the radio trim panel

After you remove the two T20 Torx screws, you should be able to pull the radio trim panel off the dash. Grip the panel from the storage tray where you removed the Torx screws. Then, firmly but carefully pull backward.

The panel should pop loose, exposing the radio and its connectors.

3. Disconnect the A/C connectors

Once the panel is loose, you will have to unplug the A/C control connectors. There are four electrical connectors in total. Press the tab or use your screwdriver to disconnect these, and then finish removing the trim panel and set it safely aside.

4. Remove the 7mm bolts

The next step is to remove the four bolts that secure the stock radio to the dash. These bolts have a 9/32” head, but you can use a seven-millimeter socket to remove them if you don’t have an SAE socket set.

Remove these bolts while being careful not to drop them down into the dash, and then set them to the side. Once you remove the four bolts, you should be able to pull the radio out of its compartment.

5. Pull out the radio and unplug the electrical connections

After you remove the four retaining bolts, you should be able to pull the radio free from the dash. Be careful, though, because there are still four electrical connections that you must unplug.

Unplug the four connectors and then remove the stock radio.

6. Install the new radio

Installing the new radio is not quite as simple as following these steps in reverse. To fit an aftermarket radio in your 2014 Dodge Ram 1500, you will need to modify your car slightly.

Because of this, it’s wise to consult with a Ram professional before you begin making modifications to the vehicle.

However, after making the necessary adjustments, you should have no problems following the steps in reverse to install your new stereo.
