2013 Lexus GS 350 engine oil capacity

Before anything else, we’ll need to establish how much engine oil is required for a 2013 Lexus GS 350. This model has a 3.5-liter V6 engine and an oil capacity of 6.7 quarts or 6.3 liters
It may be strange to see that a 3.5-liter engine needs 6.3 liters of oil, but it’s important to keep those two values separate because they describe different things. A 3.5-liter engine means that the engine cylinders occupy a 3.5-liter volume in the engine. This is called the engine’s displacement
6.3 liters is the measurement of the engine oil capacity, or how much motor oil is needed for that engine to perform well. In this case, 6.3 liters or 6.7 quarts

What kind of oil does a 2013 Lexus GS 350 need?

We’ve established that the 2013 Lexus GS 350 needs 6.7 quarts of oil in the engine, so now we need to discuss the right kind of oil. The owner’s manual for this Lexus recommends an oil grade of 0W-20
An oil grade tells us about the oil’s viscosity levels when exposed to cold and hot temperatures. The 0 and W, which stands for “winter”, indicate that the oil is thin with low viscosity in cold temperatures. The 20, then, tells us its viscosity level at hot temperatures, but at 20 it’s still relatively thin.
You’ll want to make sure you get an engine oil with the right oil grade for your vehicle because those are the oil conditions that your engine operates the best in. 0W-20 motor oil will ensure your 2013 Lexus GS 350’s performance in hot and cold temperatures and won’t cause as much wear on the engine.
And don’t be thrown if you’re strolling the motor oil aisle and see a bunch of synthetic oil options! Synthetic engine oils can benefit your Lexus with better gas mileage, better engine performance, and a longer time in between oil changes. Just make sure the oil grade matches the recommended 0W-20. The owner's manual specifically recommends the use of Toyota Genuine Motor Oil or an equivalent SAE 0W-20 motor oil.

How often to change oil on a 2013 Lexus GS 350

You now have the amount and type of oil necessary for a 2013 Lexus GS 350 oil change, but how can you tell when it needs an oil change?
Lexus
’s general rule of thumb is to change your GS 350 oil every 3,000 to 5,000miles. However, if you don’t drive very often you can likely keep the same oil for a longer stretch of time, especially if you use synthetic motor oil that can last 7,500 to 10,000 miles
In between oil changes, you should still be regularly monitoring your oil levels and quality. Check the oil dipstick about once a month to make sure the oil is still clean, and keep your senses out for these signs of bad oil:
  • Dark brown or black oil. Clean oil is amber or light brown in color.
  • Debris or sludgy texture. If you notice the consistency is anything but smooth, the oil is contaminated and should be changed ASAP.
  • Burning smell. A smoky, burning smell can indicate low oil levels or contaminated oil.
  • Strange sounds. You may hear unfamiliar sounds coming from the engine when you’re in need of an oil change.
  • Decreased performance. A lower fuel economy or slower acceleration can all sign bad oil reaching your engine.

How to change your oil and oil filter

When the time for an
oil change
rolls around, head out to your garage with these materials:
  • Socket wrench
  • Drain pan
  • Filter wrench
  • New oil filter
  • 6.7 quarts of 0W-20 motor oil
Before doing anything else, warm the engine to its normal operating temperature. You can do this by driving around the block a couple of times or letting it idle for five to twenty minutes depending on the outside temperature. Then shut the engine off while your Lexus is on level ground and pop open the hood to get started:
  • Remove the oil fill cap.
  • Using the socket wrench, remove the oil drain bolt on the underside of the engine and allow the current oil to drain into the drain pan.
  • Remove the old oil filter with the filter wrench, then wait for the rest of the oil to drain completely.
  • Install the new oil filter.
  • Replace the oil drain bolt.
  • Refill the engine with 6.7 quarts of 0W-20 motor oil and replace the oil fill cap
And congrats, you’ve changed your oil! Turn your engine on and check around for any leaks, then pull out the oil dipstick to make sure the oil levels are correct.
After changing your oil, it’s a good idea to turn on your car and let your engine run for about 30 seconds before you check the oil level. This will give you a more accurate measurement, and you’ll be able to top it off if necessary.
Now it’s time for clean-up. Pour the old oil into a sealed container so you can take it to your local recycling center. Make sure you don’t pour the oil onto the ground or in the trash
