Most off-road enthusiasts know that getting bigger tires for their Jeep Wranglers can really improve the vehicle’s performance and ride comfort over rough terrain. However, before you can swap out those factory wheels, you need to know your Jeep Wrangler’s bolt pattern.

2012 Jeep Wrangler bolt pattern

Every Jeep Wrangler made from 2007 to 2018—including the 2012 model—has a 5x5 or 5 on 5 bolt pattern. Basically, the bolt pattern numbers tell you:
# of bolts x diameter of the circle they form
So a 5x5 bolt pattern means your Jeep Wrangler wheels have five lugs forming a five-inch diameter circle.
If you’re wanting to upgrade your wheels, you’ll need a few more measurements besides the bolt pattern. You’ll also want to know the stud size, center bore measurement, torque specifications, and wheel offset:
  • Factory wheel size: 16” to 18”
  • Stud size: 1/2x20 (1/2 inch stud with 20 threads per inch)
  • Offset:12 to 38 mm
  • Center bore: 71.5 mm
  • Wheel tightening torque: 130 Nm

How to measure your Jeep Wrangler’s bolt pattern

With the information above, you should be able to get new wheels on your Wrangler in no time. However, if you ever need to find the bolt pattern measurements on another vehicle, you can measure them yourself.
You’ll need a measuring tape or even a ruler. Since there are an odd number of holes, pick a bolt on one wheel and measure from the outside edge of the lug hole to the center of the opposing lug hole.
The measurement you just took is the diameter or the second number of your bolt pattern. Put that number with the number of bolts on your wheel, and that’s the vehicle’s bolt pattern!
