2010 Mazda 3 engine oil capacity

The 2010 Mazda 3 has an engine oil capacity of 4.5 quarts. That means you can pour 4.5 quarts of oil into your engine after the old oil has been drained.
The 2010 Mazda 3 has a 2.0 L 4-cylinder engine, which gets 148 horsepower and 135 pound-feet of torque. The 2.0 L in the engine’s name is the engine displacement—the amount of volume its four cylinders take up—and not the engine oil capacity. Make sure not to confuse these two numbers.

What kind of oil does a 2010 Mazda 3 need?

With so many different engine oils on the market, it's important to purchase the oil that’s right for your engine. According to the 2010 Mazda 3 owner’s manual, you should fill your engine with 5W-20 engine oil
If you are not sure what that means, the numbers in the oil indicate the viscosity or thickness of the oil. The first number is the viscosity at cold temperatures (thus the W for winter), while the second number is the viscosity at your engine’s regular operating temperature
Mazda also recommends that you use a fully synthetic oil as this is made to help your engine run more smoothly, and it will last longer between oil changes.

How often to change oil on a 2010 Mazda 3

While cars that need conventional oil will need an oil change every 3,000 to 5,000 miles, the 2010 Mazda 3 takes synthetic oil and can go 7,500 to 10,000 miles between oil changes
However, there are some signs that you need to change your oil sooner, regardless of how long it's been since your last oil change. Watch out for these problem signs:
  • Your motor oil is dark brown or black
  • The oil feels coarse or gritty
  • The engine is making strange noises
  • Unpleasant smells are coming from the engine
  • Your vehicle’s performance has dipped

How to change your oil and oil filter

With all the above information, there’s only one step left: actually changing your oil.
To do so, you’ll need the following equipment:
  • Socket wrench
  • Drain pan
  • Replacement filter
  • Bottle of engine oil
Let your car run for a few minutes to warm up the engine—this will help the oil drain. Turn your car off and, after making sure your engine is not too hot, you can pop the hood and get to work.
  • Unscrew the fill cap. If it’s stuck after you’ve drained your oil, your car won’t be able to move
  • Put the drain pan under the oil drain bolt
  • Undo the oil drain bolt from under your car
  • While the oil drains, replace your oil filter
  • Once the oil is drained, replace the oil drain bolt using a new washer
  • Pour fresh motor oil into your car
  • Rescrew the fill car
After changing your oil, it’s a good idea to turn on your car and let your engine run for about 30 seconds before you check the oil level. This will give you a more accurate measurement, and you’ll be able to top it off if necessary.
You’re done! Let your car run for a minute to see if there are any leaks or if a dashboard light has popped up. Otherwise, the last step is disposing of the old motor oil—you’ll want to place it in a sealable container and bring it to a recycling center.
