Unscrew and remove the oil fill cap on the top of the engine
Slide underneath the engine and use the socket wrench to remove the oil drain bolt and washer. Make sure to position the drain pan beneath the oil drain to catch the oil as it drains out of the engine before removing the drain bolt
Use the filter wrench to remove the old oil filter. Let the engine continue draining
Install the new oil filter
Replace the oil drain bolt and secure it with a new washer. Tighten the bolt to 29 ft-lb
Refill the engine with your new engine oil
Use the dipstick to make sure that enough oil has been added
Return the oil fill cap and tighten it
Double-check your work by running the engine for a few minutes—you’re looking for leaks or any signs that the oil was not properly changed. At this point, the oil pressure light
on the dashboard should also turn off. Do not dispose of the old engine oil by dumping it on the ground or tossing it in the garbage can. You must pour the old oil into a sealable container and deliver it to a local recycling center or participating auto parts store for safe disposal.
After changing your oil, it’s a good idea to turn on your car and let your engine run for about 30 seconds before you check the oil level. This will give you a more accurate measurement, and you’ll be able to top it off if necessary.
