2008 Honda Accord V6 oil capacity

The oil capacity on a 2008 Honda Accord V6 is 4.5 quarts or approximately 4.3 liters. All car engines tend to consume a little oil so Honda suggests checking your engine oil roughly every other refuel at the gas station. Use these checkups to make sure your oil levels aren’t too low.

What kind of oil does a 2008 Honda Accord V6 need?

Honda recommends using premium-grade 5W-20 detergent oil with an API Certification Seal for the 2008 Honda Accord V6.
Fully synthetic oil can also be used if it meets the same requirements, though it's important you always follow the oil and filter change intervals shown in your car’s information display.
But what does 5W-20 mean, exactly? The number before the W tells you how easily the oil will flow (i.e., its viscosity) in cold conditions. The lower the number, the more easily the oil will flow. The number after the W tells you the thickness of the oil in normal operating temperatures.
5W-20 oil is designed for year-round operation, so it works efficiently in cold-weather starts and improves fuel economy.
Detergent oils work to eliminate engine sludge and prolong the oil life thanks to the help of chemical additives.
If you consistently drive in a cold climate, you may want to use 0W-20 instead of 5W-20 because it will flow more easily in cold conditions.

How often to change oil on a 2008 Honda Accord V6

You should look to change the oil on your 2008 Accord every 3,000 to 5,000 miles. Honda Accords also come with an oil life indicator that should tell you when service is due.
On top of oil changes, you should also be checking your engine oil regularly (Honda recommends roughly every other refuel). You can use your dipstick for this to check if your oil level is between the maximum and minimum marks and to check out the appearance of the oil.
Here are some signs your oil may need to be changed early:
  • Your check engine oil light is on
  • The oil has changed color, from light amber to dark brown or black
  • You notice a drop in fuel efficiency
  • The engine is stalling or overheating

How to change your oil and oil filter

You’ll need a few materials to change your oil at home:
  • A wrench to loosen the drain bolt
  • Another wrench to remove the oil filter
  • A drain pan to catch the old oil
  • Gloves and a funnel to make pouring easier
  • A replacement filter
  • At least 4.5 quarts of the appropriate oil
Here’s what you need to do:
  • Park your car on a level surface. The car should ideally be raised for this service.
  • Run your engine for a while (usually five minutes in normal weather) until it reaches normal operating temperature, then shut it off.
  • Open your hood and remove the oil fill cap.
  • Find the oil drain bolt and washer under your Honda Accord.
  • Position the drain pan beneath the drain bolt. Pull out the drain bolt and washer and drain the oil onto the drain pan.
  • Locate your oil filter and remove it—be sure to catch the oil that comes out in the drain pan.
  • Add oil to the new oil filter and install the new filter.
  • Reinstall the drain bolt and put a new washer on it—this should be tightened to 29 lb-ft.
  • Refill the engine with your chosen oil.
  • Replace the fill cap.
You’re almost done! Turn your car on again to make sure there are no leaks. Any oil service lights that were illuminated before should now turn off.
Honda Accords need an extra step—you need to
reset the engine oil life display
on your 2008 Accord. This ensures that you get correct maintenance intervals, avoiding any mechanical issues in the future.
Finally, make sure you never dump the old oil on the ground or into the trash. Bring it in a sealed container to a participating recycling center.

Don’t forget regular insurance policy maintenance

Congratulations! You’ve just saved on the cost of a professional oil change, and your 2008 Honda Accord V6 will continue running its best.
But maintenance isn’t the only thing your car needs—you’ll also need to maintain at least the insurance coverage mandated by your state.
