A drain pan for the used oil
A jack and jack stands or ramps to raise the vehicle
Your car’s oil will drain better if the engine is warm. We recommend running the car for five minutes before you begin. Once the engine is warm, turn off the car, open the hood, and follow the steps below.
Step 1: Remove the oil fill cap and dipstick.
Step 2: Go underneath the car and remove the oil drain plug. Position your drain pan to catch the old oil and avoid a big mess.
Step 3: While waiting for the oil to drain, unscrew and remove the old oil filter.
Step 4: Use your finger to apply a thin layer of clean oil to the new filter’s gasket, then screw it into place. Ensure the filter is snug but don’t screw it on too tight.
Step 5: Replace the oil drain plug and tighten it to 29 lb-ft.
Step 6: Use your funnel to fill the car with clean oil and replace the fill cap.
After changing your oil, it’s a good idea to turn on your car and let your engine run for about 30 seconds before you check the oil level. This will give you a more accurate measurement, and you’ll be able to top it off if necessary. Before closing the hood, ensure the fill cap and dipstick are secure.
