2006 Honda Odyssey engine oil capacity

Before we get started, how much engine oil does a 2006 Honda Odyssey need?
The 2006 Odyssey is powered by a 3.5-liter V6 engine with an oil capacity of 4.2 quarts or 4.3 liters. The 3.5 liters of the V6 engine represent your Odyssey’s
engine displacement
rather than its oil capacity—or how much oil you need for an
oil change
. Because engine displacement and oil capacity are not the same, it’s important not to confuse them.

What kind of oil does a 2006 Honda Odyssey need?

Putting the wrong kind of oil in your engine could damage it, so it’s essential to make sure you’re purchasing the right 2006 Honda Odyssey engine oil. Honda recommends using SAE 0W-20 oil on your Odyssey, and sticking to the manufacturer's recommendation is important.
What does SAE 0W-20 mean? The numbers refer to the oil’s viscosity—or how thick the oil is—and the “W” stands for winter. An oil’s viscosity determines how it will function at different temperatures. The SAE stands for Society of Automotive Engineers, which is the body that codes oil viscosity.
Here are three Honday Odyssey engine oil options to consider:

How often to change the oil on a 2006 Honda Odyssey

Honda recommends changing your 2006 Odyssey oil every 7,500 to 10,000 miles. However, with such a large range, it’s still important to
check your oil
levels regularly. Here are a few signs it’s time for an oil change.
  • Motor oil has a coarse or gritty feel
  • Any new smells, especially oil, smoke, or burning
  • Changes in your Odyssey’s performance

How to change your oil and oil filter

First things first, you’ll need:
  • A socket wrench
  • A drain pan
  • A filter wrench
  • A replacement filter
  • 4.2 quarts of premium 5W-20 engine oil
Once you’ve gathered your materials, run your engine for about five minutes to get it to its average operating temperature. You can then shut off the engine, pop the hood, and follow these steps.
  1. Jack up your Odyssey so you have enough room to work underneath it.
  2. Place your drain pan under the engine.
  3. Unscrew the drain plug with your wrench and let the oil drain.
  4. Remove the old oil filter.
  5. Replace and tighten the drain plug.
  6. Lower your car and fill it with your new oil using a funnel.
Once you’re done, you can use your dipstick to check that you’ve added the right amount of oil to your engine. Run your Odyssey for a few minutes to check for leaks. If everything has gone according to plan, your
oil pressure light
should turn off
Rather than dumping your dirty oil out on the ground or putting it in the garbage, put it in a sealed container and drop it off at your local recycling center.
