The 2003 Ford E-350 is an excellent vehicle for what it was made to be: a work van. With ample space, spongy brakes, and the ability to transform into whatever you want it to be, it’s hard to beat. But to keep this work van in impeccable shape, you need to know its engine oil capacity.
Cargo vans are great to own if you have a business that needs highly configurable vehicles. But there will be maintenance fees and
car repairs
that need to be done since these vans get more
wear and tear
than the average vehicle. There’s good news: you can cut costs on the Ford E-350 if you decide to change your own oil. But before you do, make sure you follow directions.
Perhaps you misplaced the manual or you just want to read up on the 2003 Ford E-350’s oil capacity. If that’s the case, look no further than the
Jerry
app, which saves drivers time and money on

shopping. Jerry has everything you need to make your Ford E-350 oil change a breeze (and help you reduce your

2003 Ford E-350 engine oil capacity

The first thing to consider is the amount of oil you need for the vehicle.
The 5.4 L V8 engine that powers the Ford E-350 has an oil capacity of 6 quarts or 5.7 liters. This is different from
engine displacement
. Engine displacement is the amount of oil you will need when you do an oil change. They are two different things, so please don’t think you can swap them without worry.

What kind of oil does a 2003 Ford E-350 need?

Let’s discuss what type of oil you need for the Ford E-350. All engine oil is different, so you don’t want to purchase the first one you see when you enter the hardware store. For the Ford E-350, you’ll need 5W-20 synthetic motor oil.
But what does it all mean? The numbers refer to an oil’s viscosity, while that “W” stands for winter. The number 5 means the oil has a low viscosity at zero degrees, while 20 tells us the oil will stay relatively thin when it reaches a temperature of 212°F or 100°C.
You want your oil to reflect these numbers because it means the oil is going to perform well in extreme conditions. Low viscosity means there will be less abuse on the engine. And while “synthetic” means the oil is artificial, that’s okay!
If you’re not sure where to start, consider these three options:
  • The real deal: Use
    Motorcraft oil
, since that is what Ford Motor Company prefers to use.
  • For vehicles that drive a lot: Synthetic oil is best if you are driving a high-mileage vehicle.
  • A high-quality synthetic blend: If you want to wait longer between oil changes, try
    Motorcraft’s synthetic blend

How often to change oil on a 2003 Ford E-350

You’re now an expert on the 2003 Ford E-350 oil capacity and type—it’s time to
change your oil
You should change every six months or 7,500 miles, whichever comes first. If you put a lot of miles on the car or you need it in good working order all the time, you might want to do it more frequently.
If you’re using synthetic over conventional oil, you can let a bit more time (and distance) lapse between changes. Experts recommend waiting up to 10,000 miles.
But those numbers definitely vary.
Check your oil
levels regularly to ensure you are changing at the right time (e.g., once a month or every other refuel), or look out for the following signs that your oil needs to be changed:
  • Strange engine noises
  • Smells that were not present before, like burning
  • Change in vehicle performance

How to change your oil and oil filter

When you’re ready to change your oil, here’s what you need to get started:
  • Socket wrench
  • Filter wrench to remove oil oil
  • Drain pan
  • Replacement filter
  • Six quarts of synthetic 5W-20 engine oil
To begin, turn on the engine and let it run until it reaches normal operating temperature. This should take no more than five minutes. Once it reaches the ideal temperature, open the hood and follow these steps.
  • Take off the oil cap
  • Shimmy beneath the car, take off the oil drain bolt and washer, and drain the old oil into the collection pan
  • Pull off the old filter and continue to let oil drain
  • Put on a new filter
  • Swap out the oil drain bolt with the new washer and make sure it’s tight at 29 lb-ft
  • Fill the engine with new oil and replace the cap
After changing your oil, it’s a good idea to turn on your car and let your engine run for about 30 seconds before you check the oil level. This will give you a more accurate measurement, and you’ll be able to top it off if necessary.
Use your dipstick to ensure oil levels are fine. Then, turn on the vehicle and make sure there are no leaks. You’ll know it was done right if the
oil pressure light
turns off.
Finally, make sure you clean up after yourself. Dirty oil should be sealed in a container and recycled. Do not dump it on the ground or throw it away with the regular garbage.

Don’t forget regular insurance policy maintenance

And that’s it. Regular oil changes will keep your 2003 Ford E-350 running smoothly for years. And if you do it yourself, you will save time and money!
