You will need to
change the oil
every 6,000 miles or 6 months, whichever comes first. Putting off an oil change is never a good idea and could cause damage to your engine.
Oil changes are a staple of regular
car maintenance
. It’s important to
check your engine oil

What kind of oil does a Ford Fiesta ST need?

Ford Fiesta STs need 5W-20 oil.
Always check your owner’s manual before changing your car’s oil yourself. Using the incorrect amount or grade of oil could damage the engine or void the vehicle’s warranty.

How much does an oil change cost for a Ford Fiesta ST?

Professional cost

The cost of labor and parts will vary based on your location and the model year of your car. For 2011-2019 models, the cost of a professional oil change before taxes, fees, or additional repairs is around $112 to $132.

DIY cost

Changing your car’s oil will require some time and effort on your part, but it will save you a good deal of money in the long run. Though the cost of oil will depend on your location,
5W-20 oil
normally runs $4 to $12 for 1 quart and $10 to $40 for 5 quarts.

How to change the oil in a Ford Fiesta ST yourself

What you’ll need

  • 5W-20 oil (5 quarts)
  • Oil filter that fits your model year
  • Oil filter wrench
  • 13mm wrench
  • Drain pan
  • Funnel
  • Car jack and jack stands
  • Wheel chocks
  • A rag

1. Inspect the engine

Open your car’s hood, then:
  • Check the engine for any leaks
  • Inspect the dipstick and dipstick tube for damage
  • Remove the oil cap

2. Removing the oil filter

Lift your vehicle using the jack, then secure it in place with jack stands and wheel chocks. Place the drain pan beneath the oil filter before removing it with the oil filter wrench. Clean the area with a rag.

3. Drain the old oil

Reposition the drain pan beneath the drain plug. Remove the drain plug with the 13mm wrench. Allow the vehicle to drain for a minimum of 15 minutes, then twist on the drain bolt.

4. Installing the oil filter and drain plug

Fill the new oil filter with some 5W-20 oil, then clean the oil filter housing with your rag. Remove the old gasket from the oil filter housing. Be sure to place a layer of oil around the rim of the oil filter before you twist it into place with the oil filter wrench. After securing the new oil filter onto your car, tighten the drain bolt and reattach the drain plug.

5. Servicing the engine

With the help of your funnel, pour 4.3 quarts of 5W-20 oil into the oil fill. When you’re done, replace the oil cap and start your engine. Allow your vehicle to idle so the new oil can circulate throughout the engine.

6. Stop the engine and check the oil level

Once the engine has had a chance to idle, turn it off and allow it to cool for 3 minutes. Check the current oil level of the engine with the dipstick and top it off if the oil level is too low.

7. Remove the jack

When the oil levels are correct and all the parts are properly secured, remove the wheel chocks, jack stands, and jack. Check your oil level over the following week to be sure there are no leaks.

What happens if you don’t change the oil on a Ford Fiesta ST?

Oil changes are a vital part of your car’s maintenance. Though they can seem like an expensive chore, leaving old oil in your car can cause your engine to corrode and overheat until it fails.
A regular maintenance schedule that includes frequent oil changes is the best way to maintain the health of your car’s engine. While it may not always seem necessary, an oil change is far cheaper and quicker than repairing engine damage due to dirty oil.
