The Wagoneer is not only the largest SUV Jeep currently has to offer but it’s also one of the largest in its class. Whether you choose the Wagoneer or the Grand Wagoneer, you’re in for a perfect combination of size, luxury, and off-road utility that is uniquely Jeep.
You may find yourself asking if the Jeep Wagoneer is a little too big. The Wagoneer can be a bit cumbersome on city streets, and it may not fit on all the trails you want to tackle, but we dare you to find something that won’t fit in its cargo hold, or that it can’t haul.
An even larger Jeep Wagoneer L is set to join the ranks in early 2023, so

Meet the biggest Jeep SUV: the Wagoneer

Since the demise of the Commander, Jeep lovers have longed for a large SUV to rival the likes of the Chevy Tahoe and the Ford Expedition. They finally have it in the Jeep Wagoneer.
Weighing in at an impressive 6,244 pounds with a 123.0-inch wheelbase and room for eight passengers, the Wagoneer is palatial. But just in case that’s not big enough for you, Jeep is adding a new long-wheelbase Wagoneer L to the 2023 lineup that adds 12 inches to the overall length resulting in a 130-inch wheelbase and the most overall passenger volume in its class. If you want something bigger, you’ll have to buy a bus.
Though there’s plenty of room for cargo in both the standard and long-wheelbase Wagoneers, you can also rest assured that if you can’t stow it, you can pull it. A 420-horsepower twin-turbocharged 3.0-liter inline-six replaces last year’s gas-guzzling V8 and offers a towing capacity of up to 10,000 pounds.
As you might expect, an SUV this big isn’t cheap. The 2022 models start at $60,995, and the 2023 Wagoneer is expected to start around $62,000, making it one of the priciest options in its class.
Even base-model Wagoneers are well-equipped with options like tri-zone automatic climate control, leather upholstery, and heated and ventilated front seats, plus a full suite of active driver assists and more in-cabin tech than you can shake a smartphone at.
If you’re looking for the ultimate in luxury, you can opt for the Grand Wagoneer, which has the same dimensions as the Wagoneer, but with standard luxury features like adaptive air suspension, massaging front seats, and a panoramic sunroof
Take a look at the tables below for more detail on key specs for the largest Jeep SUV.

Engine and performance

Regardless of trim, the Jeep Wagoneer sports a powerful 420-horsepower, twin-turbo 3.0-liter inline-six that produces up to 468 lb-ft of torque at 3,500 rpm. This burly V6 is capable of launching the Wagoneer from 0-60 in just 5.4 seconds. Though you’ll probably want to ease up on the accelerator to save on fuel costs. Though the new I-6 isn’t nearly as thirsty as the 2022’s V8, it’s no Prius. EPA estimated fuel economy on the rear-wheel drive Wagoneer is just 17 mpg city and 23 mpg highway and opting for all-wheel drive or the larger Wagoneer L drops those figures by 1 mpg each.
It’s unclear whether the Wagoneer L will be equipped with the same I-6 as the Wagoneer, but rumor has it the new 510-hp 3.0 I-6 Hurricane engine may be nestled under the hood.

Cargo and towing

With an SUV as large as the Wagoneer, you’d better believe you’ll have plenty of cargo space and towing power.
Inside, the Jeep Wagoneer features:
  • Cargo volume behind first row: 130.9 cubic feet
  • Cargo volume behind second row: 71 cubic feet
  • Cargo volume behind third row: 42.1 cubic feet
The Wagoneer L will add length to the back end, resulting in 44 cubic feet of cargo space behind the third row of seats, and 89 cubes with the second row of seats folded flat.
The Wagoneer and Wagoneer L’s cavernous interiors are impressive on their own, but with a maximum towing capacity of 10,000 pounds, you should have no trouble hauling whatever you need wherever you need it.

Jeep Wagoneer vs. the competition

The Wagoneer L won’t hit dealer lots until early 2023, so, for now, let’s see how the Wagoneer stacks up in comparison to its top three competitors.
