The Jeep Gladiator Max Tow Package is designed to give your Jeep the best equipment for towing by tweaking and altering equipment all over your truck, from your tires to your alternator to your axle ratio.
This towing package comes at a high price of $1,895, but some drivers find the cost to be worth it, given the 3,500-pound boost of towing capacity it gives the Jeep Gladiator Sport.
Want to add this package to your brand new Jeep? Let’s take a look at your options, what the package offers, and a price breakdown.

What is the Jeep Gladiator Max Tow Package?

The Max Tow package is a collection of features and improvements designed to help the Jeep Gladiator tow as much weight as possible. It includes towing essentials, like a hitch, as well as upgrades like Trailer Hitch-Zoom and all-terrain tires to improve the towing experience.
The Jeep Gladiator Max Tow Package is only available on the Jeep Gladiator Sport and Sport S trim levels, so if you want this extra towing power, you’ll have to opt for one of those two trim levels.

What’s included

The Max Tow Package includes many features and equipment designed to help your Jeep tow as much weight as possible with little strain on the engine. These features include:
  • A class IV hitch
  • A heavy-duty engine cooler to prevent overheating
  • A 240-amp alternator for more efficient energy
  • A Trailer Hitch-Zoom feature, which is a small camera that helps you maneuver more effectively while towing
  • All-terrain tires for a better grip
  • A rear Trac-Lok® Anti-Spin differential for better power output
  • Heavy-duty Dana® 44 front and rear axles for improved strength
  • A revised 4.10 axle ratio for better acceleration
  • A daytime running light system for improved visibility
  • Blacked-out two-piece fender flares (to accommodate the larger size of the all-terrain tires)

What it does

Without this package, the Jeep Gladiator Sport has a maximum towing capacity of 4,000 pounds. This is already impressive but, if you add the Max Tow Package to your Gladiator Sport, your vehicle’s maximum towing capacity increases to 7,650 pounds—provided that your vehicle is equipped with an automatic transmission.
It’s also worth mentioning that this package is only available on the Sport and Sport S trim levels, so you won’t be able to add the Max Tow Package to just any Jeep Gladiator.

How much is a 2023 Jeep Gladiator Max Tow Package?

The Max Tow Package costs $1,895 in 2023. While it used to cost less than $1,000, it has increased in price over the years due to its popularity.
Given the high starting MSRP of the Jeep Gladiator Sport and the Jeep Gladiator Sport S, some drivers find this package to be pretty expensive. However, if you’re going to be hauling a lot of weight with your Jeep, you might find the Max Tow Package worth the extra cash.

Is the Max Tow Package worth it?

It depends on what you plan to use your Jeep for.
With a 4,000-pound towing capacity, you could haul:
  • A horse trailer with four horses inside
  • Most mid-sized campers
  • Canoes, jet skis, kayaks, and most fishing boats
  • Most ATVs, motorcycles, and snowmobiles
In short, if you’re planning to use your Jeep to haul smaller or medium-sized items, you won’t need the Max Tow Package to do so. However, if you want to haul larger items like big boats or large campers, a higher tow capacity could be really helpful.
Some drivers do claim that this package is pretty expensive, though. To give you a better idea of the competition, let’s compare the Gladiator Max Tow Package to other vehicles.

Gladiator Max Tow Package vs. the Nissan Frontier

The 2023
Nissan Frontier
has a maximum towing capacity of 6,230 to 6,720 lbs. This brings the Frontier’s ability pretty close to that of the Gladiator’s capabilities with the Max Tow Package without any additional equipment or packages.
The Nissan Frontier is also significantly cheaper than even the base model of the Jeep Gladiator, with a starting MSRP of $29,190. That’s over $10,000 less than the Gladiator Sport with the Max Tow Package installed!

Gladiator Max Tow Package vs. the Ford Expedition MAX 4x4

The
Ford Expedition MAX
4x4 with the optional tow package can tow up to 9,000 pounds—that’s 1,350 pounds more than the Jeep Gladiator Sport with the Max Tow Package! However, even without the tow package, the Ford Expedition MAX can tow between 6,000 and 6,500 pounds.
The Ford Expedition MAX 4x4 has a starting price of $53,875, though, making it significantly more expensive than the Jeep Gladiator Sport.

The bottom line

The Jeep Gladiator Max Tow Package is a good option for drivers who regularly depend on towing power. However, this extra power doesn’t come cheap.
If you’re willing to pay an extra $1,895 on top of the $38,775 to $42,570 starting MSRP of the Gladiator, this package might be a good fit for you. Otherwise, check out vehicles like the Nissan Frontier for a more affordable option.
