What is the Hyundai Palisade SEL Premium package?

You can add the Premium package to the Hyundai Palisade SEL model, which will give you a whole lot of extras for just about everything.
Many of the upgrades focus on technology, but you’ll also get some nice aesthetic features like a sunroof without breaking the bank. The sheer variety is unusual in terms of options packages.

What’s included

The Premium package gives you—well, premium additions to the SEL. There are more than 20 items included as add-ons, including the following highlights:
  • Major safety features like front parking sensors and blind-spot monitoring
  • A host of collision-avoidance extras, such as lane-changing features
  • Upgrades to tech items, such as a digital instrument cluster and better audio
  • Better seating options, including heated and ventilated seats
  • Luxury perks, like a sunroof and a heated steering wheel
You get a lot of practical elements, with a few indulgent extras, that anyone can appreciate. And the sheer quantity is impressive!

What it does

Where to start with the Premium package? It’s got something for everyone.
First, you'll love this option if you’re interested in safety features. You get 9 safety add-ons, like blind-spot monitoring plus the Forward Collision-Avoidance Assist Enhancements, a cluster of features that work together to keep you safe.
If you’re interested in better tech, you’ll also find plenty to like. You get a modern digital instrument cluster and more outlets and plug-ins to support items like smartphones, while the audio system gets a boost.
For someone who wants a comfortable ride, you’ll enjoy items like ventilated seats, heated seats added to the second row, and better suspension. Both the seat and mirrors have built-in memory to adjust to the driver for a nice personal touch.
But if you’re more into caviar than hamburgers, you’ll appreciate the upscale options, like a power sunroof and an intercom to make talking to passengers easier. You even get a heated steering wheel
Overall, you’ll feel like you paid more than you ended up spending on the Premium package.

Is the Premium package worth it?

Yes, you should absolutely add the Premium option to your SEL if you can afford it.
You’ll get a whole bunch of everyday features that you will regularly use, especially the safety features. It is hard to find anything not to like about the extras you’ll get with this optional package, and most are practical.
Yes, there are a few splurge items you might not care about, like the sunroof and intercom, but you’ll use many of the options consistently thanks to the package’s focus on value.
With the Premium package, you’ll get upgrades found on the higher trim levels, like the Limited and Calligraphy, at a fraction of the cost.

Premium package vs. the Limited trim

Honestly, the SEL with the Premium package added beats out the higher Limited trim in cost and value. Car and Driver even recommends the SEL trim as their primary choice for the Palisade—and when comparing the two trims, it’s easy to see why.
The SEL costs $44,885 with the Premium package added in. The Limited starts at $48,435, and the differences are mostly minor.
You’ll get some of the same features in the Limited trim as with the SEL Premium package, like ventilated seats, but you don’t get anything extra like enhanced infotainment screen size.
The biggest difference comes down to a
heads-up display
. If you’re willing to spend a few thousand extra dollars just for this feature, then the Limited can be worth it.
The heads-up display is the only major item you won’t get by adding the Premium package to the SEL. You can also add a cheaper aftermarket version of a head-up display.

Premium package vs. the Calligraphy trim

You’ll pay about $6,000 more than the SEL Premium for the Calligraphy version of the Palisade. The Calligraphy starts at $50,835, and there are a few noticeable differences.
The two main items you’ll get with the Calligraphy trim are leather seating and a sunroof. However, you can get the sunroof with the SEL Premium package.
So, are you willing to pay $6,000 extra just for leather seats? That’s pretty much what it comes down to if you’re looking between the SEL Premium and Calligraphy.

The bottom line

You’ll get a lot more for a much better price by going for the SEL trim and Premium package than selecting a higher trim. You’ll get some of the same major features, like the sunroof, for a fraction of the cost (unless you just absolutely must have $6,000 leather seats).
