How to lease a BMW M3

There are a few simple steps to take before you get started with your lease:
  • Check your credit score. Anything under 520 probably won’t qualify for a lease, and below 630 is considered poor. If your score is above 650, you’re in a good position for an excellent deal.
  • Establish a leasing budget. Ideally, you should be aiming for a
    monthly car lease payment
that’s no more than 15% of your income. If you can go lower—to 10%, for example—even better!
  • Estimate your down payment. The more you can pay upfront, the lower your monthly cost. A
    good down payment
—or capitalized cost reduction—is worth saving up for.
  • Calculate your annual mileage. Mileage limits average between 10,000 and 15,000 miles, depending on the contract. If you expect to travel more than that, you can opt for a high-mileage lease which usually ranges between 18,000 and 20,000 miles.
Once you’ve got your finances sorted out, you’re ready to head to your local BMW dealership to compare lease offers. Having a budget before you go puts you in a stronger position to negotiate the best deal and choose which BMW you can afford.

  • Return the M3 and lease a new BMW
  • Complete the lease-end steps and turn your vehicle in
  • Ask for a payoff quote and buy your M3

How to return a leased BMW M3

BMW has a five-step process for returning a leased M3:
  1. Schedule a pre-inspection: BMW Financial Services will contact you when it’s time for your pre-inspection. You can also schedule one on your own through a BMW Center or your online
    My BMW portal
    .
  2. Access the results: Sign in to My BMW to see the results of your pre-inspection and your Vehicle Return Estimate. If you see that you’ve exceeded your mileage limit, consider their Mileage Adjustment Program to purchase more miles at a discounted rate before you return your M3.
  3. Make necessary repairs: If your M3 needs any repairs, visit your local BMW center to ensure the use of Original Equipment Manufacturer (OEM) parts to avoid any additional charges at the end of your lease.
  4. Return your BMW: During your final inspection and vehicle return, you’ll sign a Federal Odometer Statement confirming that you have returned your vehicle.
  5. Access your vehicle return statement: Sign in to My BMW to view your remaining balance. A statement will be mailed to you two to three weeks after your vehicle has been returned.

How to purchase a leased BMW M3

People tend to purchase their leased BMW M3 if they’ve fallen in love with it, the vehicle has experienced low depreciation, or they find themselves financially able to.
The price for a lease-end buyout will be in your contract. The price is based on the BMW dealership’s estimate of what your M3 will be worth at the end of your lease. You should also budget to pay the tax on the vehicle’s total value if you decide to purchase your BMW.
