How much is a 2019 BMW 3 Series sedan?

When it was first released, the 2019 BMW 3 Series sedan was priced like most other luxury cars—starting above $40k at $41,525. They’re much more affordable today, though. You can pick up a used model starting between $29,000 and $33,000
The cheapest 3 Series you can buy is the
BMW 330i sedan
, while the most expensive is the
BMW 340i
Gran Turismo xDrive.
Keep in mind that your actual price may vary, as these estimates are based on a sedan in good condition without options—plus, list prices also vary by location. Don’t immediately cross higher or lower listings off your list automatically. You might even find a great deal on a 2019 3 Series that needs a little love or even a high-priced but unique model.

Is a 2019 BMW 3 Series a good buy?

It’s sleek, stylish, and sporty—but is it worth it to buy a used 2019 BMW 3 Series?
The BMW 3 Series received a facelift for the 2019 model year, so it offers up-to-date styling at the most affordable price. It doesn’t matter if you’re looking at a less expensive 330i sedan or the top-of-the-line 340i Gran Turismo xDrive with the M Sport package—you’ll get a quality used luxury car any way you cut it.

Reliability

If you’re looking for a reliable car, BMW is not it. RepairPal gives the BMW brand a poor 2.5/5.0 reliability rating. While the 3 Series fares slightly better at 3.0/5.0, the stats don’t weigh in its favor.
That being said, Consumer Reports gives the 2019 BMW 3 Series sedan 5 out of 5 for reliability, though owners rank it 3 out of 5.
A 2019 3 Series will give you problems with smartphone integration and other electrical system features. Another common complaint is the glitchy climate control system, though it seems these are issues that are somewhat easily resolved.

Speed and performance

The two powertrain options for the 2019 3 Series sedan are:
  • 330i: Turbocharged 2.0-liter four-cylinder with 255 horsepower and 295 lb-ft of torque
  • M340i: Turbocharged 3.0-liter inline-six with 385 horsepower and 369 lb-ft of torque
While rear-wheel drive (RWD) comes standard on each model, all-wheel drive (AWD) is available when you upgrade to xDrive (note that this does come with a price increase). You’ll also find an eight-speed automatic transmission, but no manual option.
How do these options combine in the 2019 BMW 3 Series? Fantastically well! Despite some struggles in prior years, the 2019 model year of the BMW 3 Series has returned this lineup to its former glory—it’s fun to drive, peppy, responsive, and has smooth handling with a finely tuned suspension, making the 2019 BMW 3 Series a delight to drive.

Fuel economy

While there were initial whispers of a hybrid powertrain for the 2019 BMW 3 Series, the 330e plug-in hybrid wasn’t released on the American market until halfway through 2020. As a result, the fuel economy for the 2019 BMW 3 Series is only so-so since all models run on premium gasoline.
The 330i with RWD has the best mileage of the lot with an EPA rating of 30 mpg for combined efficiency. The 340i xDrive, on the other hand, has the worst mileage at 23 mpg combined. You’ll spend roughly $60 more per month on fuel costs when you choose the 340i xDrive compared to the base 330i.

Interior and comfort

Power and speed are important, but when it comes to a luxury car, the true measure is the interior. The 2019 BMW 3 Series uses excellent materials and features a build quality like no other. Synthetic leather upholstery, soft-touch surfaces, and sturdy knobs make the cabin comfortable and elegant while remaining practical.
There’s also an 8.8-inch infotainment touchscreen, smartphone integration, Bluetooth connectivity, a leather-trimmed steering wheel, and a rearview camera—all standard features. Plus, you get a sunroof. Upgrade the trim for real leather upholstery and ambient lighting.
If you manage to snag one of the better-appointed trim levels, you’ll get everything you could want in a luxury car at an accessible used price. That’s like getting a brand-new car for a fraction of the price, but without the new car smell.

Safety

When it comes to safety, you can count on the 2019 BMW 3 Series sedan. While it has yet to be rated by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA), it is a 2019 Top Safety Pick+ by the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS).
The 3 Series comes standard with forward collision warning, city-speed automatic emergency braking, and pedestrian and cyclist detection. Additional safety options include:
  • Adaptive cruise control
  • Lane-departure warning
  • All-speed automatic emergency braking
  • Parking sensors with automatic parking
  • Backup assistant
  • Driver attention monitoring camera
Just keep in mind that the airbags haven’t been evaluated by the NHTSA. Still, you can enjoy the almost brand-new safety technology in your used 2019 BMW 3 Series.
