How much does Volvo XC90 car insurance cost?

It costs drivers an average of $90 per month to insure their Volvo XC90 with state minimum car insurance and $156 per month for full coverage. This makes the Volvo XC90 approximately 16% more expensive to insure than other popular cars, like the
Subaru Outback
,
Acura TSX
, and
Porsche Boxter
.
While these numbers are a good starting point, it’s important to remember that there’s no such thing as a true ‘average’ cost of car insurance. Your auto insurance rates are highly individualized based on things like your vehicle’s trim level and age, meaning that the only real way to understand how much you might be paying for your car insurance is to compare quotes from multiple providers.

While you might see your vehicle model in this table, however, your personalized insurance rate could be very different from the numbers you see here. Insurance companies consider tons of different factors when generating your insurance quote, including your zip code, driving record, and insurance history as well as your vehicle’s model year, trim level, and safety features.
To find out what insurance rates you’ll be offered for your Volvo XC90, it’s best to start by
getting car insurance quotes
from at least three insurance companies.

How'd we get these scores?

Jerry's experts conducted one of the largest car insurance surveys in the United States. We surveyed 15,000 policyholders, in all 50 states, over the span of 18 months. These policyholders hold insurance policies with 87 different insurance companies. We surveyed policyholders to gauge their satisfaction with their insurance carriers in: policy cost, customer service, buying and renewal experience, as well as claim experience. These scores were all reported by real customers of the insurance companies.

Why are some trims more expensive to insure than others?

Vehicles at premium trim levels often have higher repair and replacement costs, meaning they’re a higher risk for insurance companies. As a result, your car insurance cost will typically rise as you get higher trim levels.

So, what makes a similar vehicle more (or less) expensive to insure? Car insurance companies will take a lot of different factors into consideration when generating auto insurance quotes, including MSRP, trim level, model year, and the cost of repairs for your vehicle.

Volvo XC90 safety ratings

The safety ratings for your vehicle can also have an impact on your auto insurance prices. Two of the most well-known organizations for vehicle safety ratings are:
  • Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS): The IIHS will determine your vehicle’s safety rating based on how well occupants are protected during a crash and how well the vehicle’s technology can prevent or reduce the severity of accidents.
  • National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA): The NHTSA bases its 5-Star Safety Rating on how your vehicle performs in frontal, side, and rollover crash tests.
Check out the following table for more details on the Volvo XC90’s safety ratings.

What other factors affect Volvo XC90 insurance rates?

There are a lot of things that can impact your
car insurance rate
, including:
  • Your age: Driver age and experience can impact your rates. Those under 25 and over 75 typically see higher insurance rates than other age groups.
  • The type of vehicle you drive: Sports, luxury, and high-performance vehicles are more expensive to insure with collision and comprehensive coverage. Older vehicles tend to experience the best coverage rates.
  • Your driving record and claims history: Drivers with a clean record will get better rates than drivers with a history of accidents and/or tickets.

Volvo XC90 insurance cost for young drivers

The most expensive age group to insure is
teen drivers
between 16 and 19. Since teens are new to driving, they pose a higher risk to insurance companies. It’s also a good idea to purchase full coverage insurance for teens with a newer car, since they are more likely to get into car accidents.

Volvo XC90 insurance cost for senior drivers

While
car insurance rates for seniors
aren’t usually as high as rates for teens, you’ll find that insurance prices start to climb again as you enter your mid-60s.
This is true for a couple of reasons: older drivers are more likely to be involved in car accidents, and are more likely to be seriously injured in a crash. Both of these factors make car insurance more expensive for older adults.
Take a look at some of the rates real senior drivers received with Jerry:

Volvo XC90 insurance cost for drivers with driving violations

Your driving record can also have a big impact on your auto insurance rates. If your driving record is clean, you’ll typically see lower insurance premiums. If you have a history of violations, however, your insurance company will see you as a
high risk driver
and will therefore charge you more.
Some common traffic violations that can increase your car insurance rates include:
  • Speeding
  • Being at fault in an accident
  • Reckless driving
  • Driving with a suspended license

How can I lower the cost of insurance for my car?

No matter your driver profile, there are several things you can do to lower your insurance rates for your Volvo XC90, including:
  • Shop around: The best way to ensure that you’re getting a good rate for your insurance is to compare quotes from a number of different providers. With Jerry, this process is super easy. Jerry can generate personalized quotes from dozens of insurers in a matter of minutes, making it simple to find the best provider for you.
  • Bundle your insurance policies: Many car insurance companies offer discounts to drivers who
bundle their homeowners and auto insurance
    .
  • Research discounts: Even if they aren’t advertised, most insurers offer discounts of one kind or another. You might be able to get a discount for things like getting good grades or driving safely. Check in with your current provider to see if you’re missing out on any savings.
  • Raise your deductible: Your
    car insurance deductible
, or the amount of money that you’re responsible for paying out-of-pocket after an accident, can have a big impact on your monthly insurance rates. A higher deductible directly translates to lower rates. Just be sure that you can still afford to pay your new deductible in the event of an accident!

Methodology

The Insurance Research Team analyzes insurance products and services to drive insights and help consumers make informed purchase decisions.
Insurance research: We analyzed over 25 million car insurance quotes; conducted the largest insurance shopping survey (over 15,000 customers surveyed and 85 carriers reviewed in the past 18 months).
We surveyed insurance policyholders for their experience with their insurers in the following areas: (1) insurance cost (2) customer service (3) insurance buying experience (4) insurance renewal experience (5) claim experience. In addition, we asked people what they like about their insurers and what areas in which their insurers could improve. The driver characteristics used in calculating average rates for auto insurance include: single driver, single car, currently insured, clean driving record.
