With a commonly reported service brake problem, the 2018 Buick Enclave isn’t going to win any awards for reliability. However, it’s by no means the worst out there when it comes to major complaints or recalls.
Midsize SUVs seem like a dime a dozen these days, and
Buick
entered the field with the redesigned 2018 Enclave. Starting between $41,000 and $54,000 for the 2018 model year, the Enclave can seat up to seven and professes to be a tech-heavy haven.

The most common 2018 Buick Enclave problems

Let’s start with the good news: the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) reports zero recalls for the 2018 Buick Enclave.
However, the NHTSA has received 34 complaints about the 2018 Enclave, with almost half of them (15) being about the service brakes. Drivers reported that the emergency brake would sometimes activate on its own, or the brake indicator lights would turn on. There were a few cases where people reported that the brakes themselves did not activate when the brake pedal was pressed, which in one case led to some damage to the car.
Additionally, there were seven reported issues with the powertrain and seven with the engine, most having to do with transmission problems like not shifting gears properly. The engine start-stop mechanism has a feature that GM claims was meant to save fuel, but several owners reported an annoying—and sometimes dangerous—surge or loss in engine power as a result.
On the less risky but still annoying front, a common complaint about the 2018 Buick Enclave was that while it was stylish on the inside, the interior storage was quite poor and not well-designed. Drivers found that there weren’t a lot of options as far as places to stash phones, sunglasses, etc.—and the options that were available weren’t easy to access while driving.

Is the 2018 Buick Enclave reliable?

Overall, the 2018 Buick Enclave has average reliability scores
It’s not the most reliable midsize SUV out there, nor the worst. RepairPal gives the Enclave an overall rating of 3/5, but it still ranks 24 out of 26 for midsize SUVs. ReairPal lists the average annual repair cost for a Buick Enclave at $720. That’s less than the average for all vehicles, but the Enclave has a higher frequency of repairs which are typically more severe
J.D. Power gives the 2018 Enclave a rating of 80/100 for quality and reliability and ranked the 2018 Buick Enclave as #1 for midsize SUVs that year. That said, the Enclave seems to be pretty reliable overall, with the 2018 model year being a favorite of J.D. Power in particular.
