The most common 2016 Jeep Renegade problems

Let’s get the bigger problems out of the way first. The 2016 Jeep Renegade was recalled after it was discovered that a weld failure with the rear control arm bracket caused a very dangerous safety hazard with the car’s rear suspension. If the axle were to move, the risk of a crash significantly increased.
The 2016 Jeep Renegade was recalled once more because models equipped with the optional factory trailer hitch package posed a major safety hazard. Instead of being installed with the standard three fasteners per side, the trailer hitches were only installed with one fastener. This resulted in a serious risk while towing as the trailer hitch could become disconnected from the Renegade, greatly increasing the probability of an accident.
While not as consequential as the hitch or suspension issues, a very annoying electric issue also plagued the 2016 Jeep Renegade. Renegade owners had trouble using the Uconnect system in their Renegade with some reporting that the system failed to turn on when starting the engine. Others complained that the system would just go black, and the sound would altogether stop playing.
Other common problems with the 2016 Jeep Renegade include:
  • Excessive oil consumption
  • Check Engine light illuminating frequently
  • Faulty motor mounts
  • Transmission smoothness
  • Blown engine
  • Issues with the heating and AC systems
Compared to the three major problems with the 2016 Renegade, these issues seem trivial. Yet any of these problems could, under an unfortunate combination of circumstances, end up costing you more money than needed or create major safety risks.

Is the 2016 Jeep Renegade reliable?

Despite the glaring problems above, the 2016 Jeep Renegade has somewhat decent reliability and safety scores.
RepairPal gives the Renegade an “excellent” reliability rating of 4/5.J.D. Power on the other hand gives the 2016 Renegade a mediocre consumer rating of73/100. To offer some perspective, the Jeep Grand Cherokee from the same year was awarded 81/100 from J.D. Power.
The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration gives the 2016 Renegade a safety score of 4/5
The average annual cost of repairs for the 2016 Jeep Renegade is approximately$500. While this is well below the average cost of repairs for mid-size SUVS, the severity of the issues with the 2016 Jeep Renegade should be taken into consideration before purchase.
