How much does Mazda CX-5 car insurance cost?

The average cost to insure a Mazda CX-5 is $97 per month for state minimum coverage and $161 per month for full coverage. Compared to cars like the
Tesla
Model S
,
Chevrolet
Express
, and
Dodge
Magnum
, the Mazda CX-5 is 1% more expensive to insure.
But it’s important to understand that there is no ‘fixed’ average—car insurance rates constantly fluctuate based on your driver profile and insurer criteria. Factors such as your age, driving history, and location influence car insurance rates. So, the only way to find the best rate on Mazda CX-5 insurance for your driver profile is to shop around and compare quotes from multiple providers.

But keep in mind that insurance costs vary, even for identical cars. In addition to your driving habits, location, and age, insurers also consider your Mazda's model year and trim level to calculate your insurance premium. If you want the cheapest insurance rate for your CX-5 without sacrificing coverage, compare quotes from at least three companies before deciding.

The best car insurance companies for Mazda CX-5 owners

No single insurance company will be the best option for every Mazda CX-5 owner. Car insurance rates are as unique as every driver, and every insurance provider uses different criteria to
calculate insurance premiums
To help save you time, Jerry conducted the largest insurance shopping survey in the nation to discover the best auto insurance companies. Surprisingly, large name insurers, such as
GEICO
and
State Farm
received relatively lower ratings for policy cost, while others, including
Safeco
and
Progressive
achieved high scores across the board.

How'd we get these scores?

Jerry's experts conducted one of the largest car insurance surveys in the United States. We surveyed 15,000 policyholders, in all 50 states, over the span of 18 months. These policyholders hold insurance policies with 87 different insurance companies. We surveyed policyholders to gauge their satisfaction with their insurance carriers in: policy cost, customer service, buying and renewal experience, as well as claim experience. These scores were all reported by real customers of the insurance companies.

How much car insurance do you need for a Mazda CX-5?

Car insurance premiums for a Mazda CX-5 will differ based on your driving profile and insurance provider. However, CX-5 drivers pay an average of $97per month for minimum coverage and $161 per month for full coverage.
CarAverage Full Coverage Insurance CostAverage State Minimum Insurance Cost
Mazda CX-5
$161
$97
When choosing insurance coverage, there are two basic options:
  • Minimum coverage insurance
is the minimum amount legally required in your state, which usually includes at least bodily injury and property damage liability.
  • Full coverage insurance
provides financial protection for physical damages to your vehicle after an accident. It usually includes collision and comprehensive coverage, but may include additional coverages, such as roadside assistance or rental reimbursement. This type of coverage is required by most lenders when leasing or financing a car.
The state minimum coverage is often cheaper on a month-to-month basis—however, it will only cover costs for third parties in an accident, and can exhaust rather quickly. To better protect your vehicle and your future finances, consider a full coverage policy with higher liability limits of 50/100/50 or 100/300/100.
To help you decide on the right coverage for your Mazda model,
shop around for insurance
and compare quotes and coverage levels between providers.

Why are some trims more expensive to insure than others?

When calculating insurance premiums, vehicle repair and replacement costs can influence rates significantly. Generally speaking, the more your vehicle costs to repair or replace, the more you’ll pay to insure it. Insurers also consider vehicle safety ratings and features when determining premiums—the safer your vehicle, the lower the risk.

Insurance companies look at factors like MSRP, trim level, model year, and repair costs when calculating insurance premiums. Since these factors vary between vehicles, even for the same model and trim level, insurance prices will reflect these differences.

Mazda CX-5 safety ratings

Safety ratings are also an important consideration when determining insurance rates. The two best-known vehicle safety rating organizations are:
  • Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS): The IIHS assesses the safety of a vehicle using two factors: how well vehicle occupants are protected in the event of a car crash, and how well the technology in the vehicle can prevent or reduce the severity of crashes.
  • National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA): The NHTSA’s 5-Star Safety Rating is based on how vehicles perform in frontal, side, and rollover crash tests.
Take a look at the table below for the IIHS Safety Ratings for the Mazda CX-5.

Mazda CX-5 safety features

Vehicles equipped with more advanced driver safety features, such as airbags, anti-lock brakes, or lane departure warning, typically pose lower risks to insurers and, therefore, have lower insurance rates.
Check out the table below for a detailed list of Mazda CX-5 safety features.
Safety featureDescription
Front-impact airbags
Front-impact airbags for the driver and passenger have been designed to protect the head during a frontal crash.
Side impact airbags
Side impact airbags for the front seats have been designed to protect the torso during a side impact collision.
Overhead airbags
Overhead airbags are used to protect the occupant's heads in the event of a side collision or rollover.
Security system
The vehicle is equipped with an ignition disable device that will prevent the engine from starting if the correct original manufacturer key is not used.
Anti-lock brakes
ABS brakes automatically sense when a tire has stopped rotating under extreme braking, and will modulate the brake pressure to allow the tire to rotate. This increases the vehicles ability to turn while braking.
Stability control
Stability control automatically senses when the vehicles handling limits have been exceeded and reduces engine power and/or applies select brakes to help prevent the driver from losing control of the vehicle.
Pretensioners
Seatbelt pretensioners automatically tighten seatbelts to place the occupant in the optimal seating position during a collision.

What other factors affect Mazda CX-5 insurance rates?

Insurers consider driver- and vehicle-specific factors when calculating insurance rates. Apart from the model year, trim level, and safety ratings of your Mazda CX-5, your age (or driving experience) and driving record are the two biggest factors influencing rates—but they aren’t the only. Insurers also look at factors like your claims history, insurance record, location, mileage, vehicle use, and credit score when determining annual premiums.

Mazda CX-5 insurance cost for young drivers

Teen drivers
aged 16 to 19 face the highest insurance costs of any driver age group, regardless of what kind of car they drive. Due to a lack of driving experience, teens (and new drivers) are at a higher risk of being involved in an accident, which causes their insurance rates to rise.
However, teens can still find cheaper than average car insurance by continuously shopping for coverage. Take a look at some of the real rates teens found with Jerry for their Mazda CX-5.

Mazda CX-5 insurance cost for senior drivers

Middle-aged and senior drivers enjoy some of the cheapest rates due to decades of driving experience. However, drivers in the mid-60s and beyond may notice rates start to increase.
Most insurance providers view seniors as higher risk due to age-related factors, such as declining eyesight and hearing. Additionally, seniors are also more vulnerable to severe injuries in the event of a collision, which can also raise their rates.
But, all hope isn’t lost. Seniors can still save on car insurance with the Jerry app. Check out the premiums seniors are paying for their Mazda CX-5.

Mazda CX-5 insurance cost for drivers with driving violations

Your driving record is one of the most important factors insurers use to calculate your premium. Drivers with a history of accidents and other violations—or even just a single infarction—are considered high-risk drivers and will pay higher premiums than drivers with a
clean driving record
Some of the most common driving violations that can increase auto insurance rates include:

Cheapest car insurance for Mazda CX-5 drivers with speeding ticket

Car insurance repercussions for speeding tickets vary based on the severity of the offense. For example, your auto insurance rates won’t increase as much for being cited going 5 mph over the speed limit as they would for going 20. But if you’re nailed with a reckless driving ticket, expect your rates to go through the roof.
Thankfully, if you have a speeding ticket on your record, you can still find savings by shopping with Jerry.

Cheapest car insurance for Mazda CX-5 drivers with a DUI record

A DUI offense on your driving record is a red flag to insurers that you’re a high-risk driver—and it’s guaranteed to increase your car insurance rates. However, every insurer uses different criteria to calculate rates, which means that even with a DUI, rates will vary between providers, so it pays to shop around.
These are the costs real drivers with a DUI on their record are paying for their Mazda CX-5 after using Jerry.

How can I lower the cost of insurance for my car?

If you feel like you’re overpaying for your Mazda CX-5 insurance, here are some smart shopping strategies to help reduce your rate:
  • Shop around: Shopping around and comparing auto insurance quotes from multiple providers is the easiest way to save money. And with an app like Jerry, it becomes simple. Even if you already have a policy, Jerry can help ensure you always get the best rate.
  • Increase your deductible: Your
    car insurance deductible
is the amount of money you must pay out of pocket before your collision or comprehensive coverage kicks in. Increasing your deductible to the highest amount you can afford upfront can help reduce your monthly payments.
  • Look for discounts:
    Car insurance discounts
are one of the easiest ways to save on car insurance. Every insurer offers them, but what’s available will vary based on your location and your chosen provider.
  • Bundle your insurance policies:
Bundling your homeowners and auto insurance
(or auto and renters insurance) with the same company can reduce your overall premium.

Methodology

The Insurance Research Team analyzes insurance products and services to drive insights and help consumers make informed purchase decisions.
Insurance research: We analyzed over 25 million car insurance quotes; conducted the largest insurance shopping survey (over 15,000 customers surveyed and 85 carriers reviewed in the past 18 months).
We surveyed insurance policyholders for their experience with their insurers in the following areas: (1) insurance cost (2) customer service (3) insurance buying experience (4) insurance renewal experience (5) claim experience. In addition, we asked people what they like about their insurers and what areas in which their insurers could improve. The driver characteristics used in calculating average rates for auto insurance include: single driver, single car, currently insured, clean driving record.
