Overview: what is a Maserati extended warranty?

Maserati’s factory warranty, also called its “contractual warranty,” is included in the price of the vehicle and comes with 4 years or 50,000 miles of bumper-to-bumper, powertrain, and corrosion coverage.
This is a comprehensive warranty that protects you against all defects in workmanship and materials, including the engine, transmission, electrical components, and more.
For those who’d like to extend their warranty, there are two options: The Extended Warranty and the Limited Extended Warranty.
The Extended Warranty provides the same coverage as your contractual warranty up to the 5th year after the registration date. On the other hand, the Limited Extended Warranty offers protection for the main mechanical components of your car—the engine, gearbox and transmission—up to the 7th year after the registration date.

Maserati extended warranty: coverage and cost

The difference between Maserati’s extended warranty options is what they cover and how long they last. While the Limited Extended Warranty lasts up to 7 years, it only covers the main mechanical components of your vehicle. The standard Extended Warranty covers everything but doesn’t last quite as long.

What’s covered

The Maserati Extended Warranty covers everything that’s covered under the brand’s contractual warranty. It includes 5 years of bumper-to-bumper coverage, powertrain coverage, and corrosion coverage.
It protects against all defects in workmanship and materials. This includes the engine, transmission, electrical components, and more. Plus, it includes 24-hour roadside assistance throughout the warranty period. It also comes with unlimited mileage, though your vehicle must have fewer than 80,000 miles at the time of activation.
The Limited Extended Warranty lasts 7 years with unlimited mileage but only extends coverage for the engine, gearbox, and transmission. Your Maserati must have fewer than 95,000 miles at the time of activation.

What isn’t covered

Even Maserati’s factory warranty, as well as their Extended Warranty, come with some basic exclusions. These include what’s typically not covered under vehicle warranties, such as:
  • Things covered by your auto insurance: non-moving body parts, glass, sheet metal, paint, rust, etc.
  • Things covered by required maintenance: batteries, cables, belts, hoses, tires, lights, brake pads, and rotors
  • Anything caused by improper and unreasonable use like off-roading, drag racing, etc.
  • Modified or custom parts, like an aftermarket sound system
  • Other components like fabric, upholstery, carpets, dash pad, wiper blades, etc.

Duration

The duration of your Maserati extended warranty depends on which option you choose. The Extended Warranty will cover the 4th and 5th years of your vehicle’s life, regardless of how many miles are on it.
The Limited Extended Warranty can kick in after the fact and cover the 6th and 7th years of your vehicle’s life, regardless of how many miles are on it.
The durations are not affected by your warranty activation date. In other words, it doesn’t matter if you choose to purchase an extended warranty when you buy your vehicle, or a couple years down the line.

Cost

The exact price of your Maserati extended warranty depends on a few factors: the price of your vehicle, your geographic location, and which policy you select.
In general, you can expect to pay an average of $1,500 per 24-month period. However, if you add on the extended warranty at vehicle signing, you may be able to negotiate a lower warranty price just like you can negotiate the overall cost of your new vehicle.
Keep in mind that if you’re financing your vehicle through a lender, you will be paying interest on the warranty price as well as the vehicle price.

Is it worth getting a Maserati extended warranty?

Whether or not you purchase an extended warranty is a highly personal choice. In general, we recommend considering two factors:
  • Maserati’s reliability ratings: The luxury brand is known for many things, but reliability isn’t one of them. Extending your warranty might be worth the peace of mind knowing you won’t be on the hook for potentially costly repairs you didn’t cause.
  • How long you intend to keep your Maserati: If you plan to resell your Maserati after a short time, investing in an extended warranty might not make sense. Warranties can be transferred, but it might not be worth the added cost if you’re not benefiting from it directly.
You might consider
mechanical breakdown insurance
(MBI) as an alternative to an extended warranty. Like an extended warranty, MBI helps to cover the cost of mechanical repairs not caused by wear and tear after your vehicle’s factory warranty expires, but it’s regulated by outside bodies and not purchased through a dealer with a profit incentive.
