The best car insurance companies for Jeep Wrangler owners

Car insurance rates are as unique as the driver, and premiums are personalized based on various factors insurers consider when
calculating insurance premiums
. That means Jeep Wrangler insurance rates will differ between drivers and insurance providers.
But when looking for Jeep insurance, cost isn’t the only factor to consider—you’ll also want to look at a carrier’s ratings for things like claims experience and customer service.
To save you time, Jerry surveyed over 18,000 real policyholders to determine the
best car insurance companies
. We asked policyholders about their experience with their current providers. Take a look at the table below to see how Jerry users rated their insurers on price, claims experience, and customer service.

How'd we get these scores?

Jerry's experts conducted one of the largest car insurance surveys in the United States. We surveyed 15,000 policyholders, in all 50 states, over the span of 18 months. These policyholders hold insurance policies with 87 different insurance companies. We surveyed policyholders to gauge their satisfaction with their insurance carriers in: policy cost, customer service, buying and renewal experience, as well as claim experience. These scores were all reported by real customers of the insurance companies.

How much car insurance do you need for a Jeep Wrangler?

Regardless of location, drivers are required to meet or exceed their state's
minimum coverage car insurance
requirements before getting behind the wheel.
CarAverage Full Coverage Insurance CostAverage State Minimum Insurance Cost
Jeep Wrangler
$150
$85
There are two options for insurance:
  • Minimum coverage insurance
is the minimum amount legally required in your state, and is broken down into
    bodily injury
    and
    property damage liability
insurance. These liability coverages will pay for any injuries or damages you cause in an accident to other parties. It will not cover your own expenses.
  • Full coverage insurance
provides financial protection for damages to your vehicle. This includes
    collision
    and
    comprehensive
coverage which will pay for damages caused in collision and non-collision related events (i.e. theft, vandalism, and severe weather).
Depending on your state, you may also be required to purchase one or more of the following
types of car insurance
as part of your minimum coverage policy:
If you loan or lease your vehicle, most lenders will require you to purchase collision and comprehensive coverage for the duration of your auto loan or lease. You’ll also need a full coverage policy if you plan to add additional coverages, such as roadside assistance.

Why are some trims more expensive to insure than others?

One factor influencing car insurance rates is the Manufacturer's Suggested Retail Price (MSRP) of the vehicle. The more expensive your car, the more you’ll pay to insure it. Higher trim levels have more features and technology that come with higher repair costs and, therefore, higher insurance costs.
Additionally, specific Jeep Wrangler models are designed for off-roading, which comes with greater risks. Because there’s an increased risk of filing a comprehensive claim, insurers will charge higher rates for off-road models like the Rubicon or Willys.

Are Jeep Wranglers expensive to insure?

The average cost of minimum coverage insurance for a Jeep Wrangler is about $85 per month, but it’s important to remember that’s just an average—the actual rate you’ll pay depends on your driving profile and Wrangler.
A souped-up, off-road-ready Wrangler will cost more to insure than the base-level no-bells-and-whistles model. Similarly, a newer model will cost more to insure than a six-year-old model.

Why are similar cars more or less expensive to insure? When calculating insurance costs, insurers factor in things like MSRP, trim level, safety features, and model year. The newer and more expensive models typically have higher insurance costs than older, cheaper models.

Jeep Wrangler safety features

Insurers are big on safety, so the higher the safety rating and the more safety features your Wrangler has, the less you’ll pay for insurance—in most cases.
A vehicle with more advanced safety features poses a lower risk to insurance companies in the event of an accident. As such, insurance costs for vehicles with more (and better) safety features will be lower.
Check out the table below to learn about the Jeep Wrangler’s safety features.
Safety featureDescription
Stability control
Stability control automatically senses when the vehicles handling limits have been exceeded and reduces engine power and/or applies select brakes to help prevent the driver from losing control of the vehicle.
Front-impact airbags
Front-impact airbags for the driver and passenger have been designed to protect the head during a frontal crash.
Anti-lock brakes
ABS brakes automatically sense when a tire has stopped rotating under extreme braking, and will modulate the brake pressure to allow the tire to rotate. This increases the vehicles ability to turn while braking.
Pretensioners
Seatbelt pretensioners automatically tighten seatbelts to place the occupant in the optimal seating position during a collision.
Side impact airbags
Side impact airbags for the front seats have been designed to protect the torso during a side impact collision.
Security system
The vehicle is equipped with an ignition disable device that will prevent the engine from starting if the correct original manufacturer key is not used.

What other factors affect Jeep Wrangler insurance rates?

  • Driver age: Drivers under 25 pay some of the highest insurance rates of any age group due to limited driving experience and a higher risk for accidents. Similarly, drivers over 75 pay higher rates due to age-related factors that increase accident risk and subsequent injuries.
  • Claims and driving history: A history of accidents and moving violations tells insurers you’re a high-risk driver, which will lead to higher insurance rates, regardless of what vehicle you drive.
  • Zip code: Different areas within city limits are subject to unique factors influencing car insurance rates, such as traffic patterns and crime activity.
  • Mileage: The more you drive, the higher the risk of being involved in an accident and the more you’ll pay to insure your vehicle.
  • Credit score: Most insurers use credit-based insurance scores to calculate insurance rates. Drivers with good or excellent credit scores generally see lower rates than drivers with poor credit scores.

Jeep Wrangler insurance cost for young drivers

Teen drivers
between the ages of 16 and 19 and new drivers face some of the highest insurance rates due to minimal driving experience, which leads to an increased risk of being involved in an accident.
Rates typically decrease after 25 as they gain more experience behind the wheel, but taking a driver training course is another way to find affordable young driver car insurance rates.
It’s also important to note that while minimal coverage is the cheapest for young and new drivers, most can benefit from a full-coverage insurance policy that includes collision and comprehensive insurance for greater financial and legal protection.

Senior drivers in their mid-70s might have decades of driving experience, but older drivers are more vulnerable to severe injuries in the event of a collision, which means they’ll face higher insurance rates than middle-aged drivers.

Jeep Wrangler insurance cost for drivers with driving violations

Your driving record has one of the biggest impacts on car insurance rates. A history of at-fault accidents and moving violations—even a minor speeding ticket—can result in higher-than-average insurance rates. Insurers want to know you’re a safe driver, so drivers with a clean driving record are often rewarded with the best rates.
Some common violations that can lead to high insurance rates include:

Cheapest car insurance for Jeep Wrangler drivers with speeding ticket

Repercussions for a speeding ticket vary based on the degree of speeding—the faster you drive, the more your car insurance rate will increase. And if your speed warranted a reckless driving citation, expect your premium to go through the roof.
If you’ve recently added a speeding ticket to your driving record, Jerry can help you compare rates from the most popular providers in your area to find the most affordable policy for your Jeep Wrangler.

A DUI conviction on your driving record is a serious offense that signals to insurers you’re a high-risk driver. While a DUI on your record undoubtedly will increase your car insurance rates, rates will still vary between providers, so the best way to find the most affordable rate is to compare quotes from multiple providers.

A history of at-fault accidents on your driving record is another reason for high auto insurance rates. Insurers calculate premiums based on risk level—the higher risk you pose to an insurer, the more you’ll pay to insure your vehicle.

How can I lower the cost of insurance for my car?

Shopping around and comparing free quotes from multiple providers is the quickest and easiest way to find the cheapest car insurance rate, but there are other easy ways to save:
  • Increase your deductible: Your
    car insurance deductible
is the amount you must pay after filing a collision or comprehensive claim before your insurer will cover any costs. To keep your monthly payments as low as possible, increase your deductible to the highest amount you can afford to pay out-of-pocket in the event of an accident.
  • Look for discounts:
    Car insurance discounts
are one of the easiest ways to save on Jeep Wrangler car insurance. Most insurance companies offer various discounts, but what’s available will depend on the insurer and your location.
  • Bundle your insurance policies:
Bundling your homeowners and auto insurance
(or auto and renters) with the same insurance provider can help you save on both premiums.

Methodology

The Insurance Research Team analyzes insurance products and services to drive insights and help consumers make informed purchase decisions.
Insurance research: We analyzed over 25 million car insurance quotes; conducted the largest insurance shopping survey (over 15,000 customers surveyed and 85 carriers reviewed in the past 18 months).
We surveyed insurance policyholders for their experience with their insurers in the following areas: (1) insurance cost (2) customer service (3) insurance buying experience (4) insurance renewal experience (5) claim experience. In addition, we asked people what they like about their insurers and what areas in which their insurers could improve. The driver characteristics used in calculating average rates for auto insurance include: single driver, single car, currently insured, clean driving record.
For the quotes and sold policies included in this article, please note that personal information has been hidden. Not all customers find savings.
Team: The team consists of licensed insurance agents, insurance industry veterans, and data scientists.
