How much does Hummer car insurance cost?

There’s probably no vehicle make more synonymous with unbridled brawn than the Hummer. A civilian version of the M998 Humvee introduced in 1992, Hummer took the form of three burly, off-road-oriented SUVs manufactured by AM General.
Hummer drivers pay an average of $1,140 per year for
auto insurance
—but every Subaru car insurance policy is unique. This number is just an estimate, there is no real ‘average’ cost of car insurance. Your price will depend entirely on your driver profile, which is why it’s so important to compare quotes.

The best car insurance companies for Hummer drivers

No insurance company has the best rates for all Hummer owners. That’s because insurance rates are based on a wide range of factors which vary from driver to driver: driving history, age, gender, location, credit score, and more.
But that doesn’t mean comparing insurance providers is a waste of time. In fact, when
shopping for car insurance
, comparing carriers is the most important step in the process! And Jerry’s created an extra tool to help—the nation’s largest insurance shopping survey to help you identify the best fit for your needs!
We asked real drivers to rate their insurance companies—and we’ve got answers for you. The table below shows how Hummer owners rated different insurance companies based on policy costs, claims handling, and customer service.

How'd we get these scores?

Jerry's experts conducted one of the largest car insurance surveys in the United States. We surveyed 15,000 policyholders, in all 50 states, over the span of 18 months. These policyholders hold insurance policies with 87 different insurance companies. We surveyed policyholders to gauge their satisfaction with their insurance carriers in: policy cost, customer service, buying and renewal experience, as well as claim experience. These scores were all reported by real customers of the insurance companies.

The cheapest Hummers to insure

According to our research, the cheapest Hummer to insure is the 2024 Hummer 2006 Hummer H3, with an average rate of $61 per month for state minimum coverage and $61 for full coverage.

The most expensive Hummers to insure

The most expensive Hummer model to insure is the 2024 Hummer 2008 Hummer H3 Alpha, averaging $345 monthly for basic liability coverage and $325 monthly for full coverage.
But remember—the Hummer you own is only one factor that insurance companies look at when setting your rates. Your age, driving record, coverage and deductibles, and other factors will all influence the amount you pay for coverage.

What factors affect Hummer insurance rates?

Tons of factors determine
how car insurance rates are calculated
for Hummer owners, including:
  • Vehicle cost: The more your Hummer is worth, the more you’ll pay for collision and comprehensive coverage.
  • Vehicle age: Your Hummer’s age is likely a factor to your advantage, since used vehicles typically cost a little less to insure compared to their newer counterparts.
  • Vehicle usage: You’ll pay more to insure a Hummer for your everyday commute than if you only use it for pleasure drives on your days off.
  • Cost of parts: Because all Hummer models are discontinued, parts can be hard (and expensive!) to find.
  • Your age: Teens and seniors over age 75 will pay the most to insure a Hummer.
  • Your driving record and claims history: At-fault accidents, insurance claims, and violations in the last three to five years can add additional charges to your base insurance rate.
  • Where you keep your car: The ZIP code where your Hummer is garaged tells the insurance agent underwriting the policy about the risk of accidents, theft, vandalism, and even natural disasters.
All of the factors above impact insurance costs for just about any car—but Hummer owners will also need to consider:
  • Off-roading: Most car insurance policies don’t cover off-road use, so be sure to check with your insurance agent to make sure you’re covered if you plan to take your Hummer rock crawling.
  • AWD/4WD: It typically costs a little more to insure a vehicle with all-wheel or four-wheel drive—like a Hummer.
  • Safety ratings: Crash tests for Hummer vehicles are limited and don’t always return the best ratings, which can raise the cost of coverage.

Hummer insurance costs for young drivers

Teens and Hummers don’t mix well—especially when it comes to insurance.
Teen drivers from ages 16 to 19
already pay the highest average rates of any category. Throw in a gargantuan, hard-to-operate vehicle with shaky safety ratings, and you’re looking at seriously steep insurance premiums.

Hummer insurance costs for senior drivers

Senior drivers from ages 55 to 75
pay some of the lowest rates for car insurance—but costs begin to rise around the mid-70s mark thanks to increased rates of driver error and serious injury. Keep those factors in mind when shopping for Hummer insurance as a senior driver.

While your age affects your insurance rates, a number of other factors also play a role in determining how much you’ll pay to protect your vehicle. That’s why shopping for personalized insurance quotes is the best way to know what you can expect to pay for car insurance.

Hummer insurance rates for drivers with violations

Your driving record is one of the most important factors that insurance companies look at when setting rates. If you have any of the following on your motor vehicle report from the past three to five years, you’ll likely pay more to insure your Hummer:
  • Speeding tickets
  • DUI convictions
  • At-fault accidents
  • Reckless driving charges
  • Driving on a suspended license

Cheapest car insurance for Hummer drivers with a speeding ticket

Not all speeding tickets have an equal impact on your insurance. A single ticket for going a few miles above the speed limit likely won’t have a big effect on your premium—but repeated tickets, or a single serious speeding charge, can raise your rates for at least a few years.
Jerry’s proud to help Hummer owners with speeding tickets save on insurance—here’s what that looks like!

Cheapest car insurance for Hummer drivers with DUIs

A DUI conviction
can lead to elevated insurance rates from most providers—but not all companies handle DUIs in the same way. If you’ve got one on your record, comparing Hummer insurance quotes is the best way to secure good coverage at an affordable rate. Jerry has helped many Hummer owners find cheap car insurance after a DUI.

Cheapest car insurance for Hummer drivers after an accident

If you cause an accident in your Hummer, your insurance rates will go up at your next policy renewal. It can happen to even the safest driver—and unfortunately, giant vehicles like Hummers tend to cause more damage in collisions than your average car.
Not to worry—Jerry has tons of experience finding affordable quotes for drivers with accident records.

How to lower the cost of Hummer car insurance

You don’t buy a car built like a tank to save money—but that doesn’t mean it isn’t possible. Using the strategies below is the best way to save on insurance as a Hummer owner.
  • Compare, compare, compare: Shopping around to find the best rate from a company you’re comfortable with is the #1 way to reduce insurance expenses for a Hummer or any other vehicle.
  • Bundle your policies: Buying homeowners insurance or renters insurance from the same company that insures your Hummer could save you money. Check out Jerry’s review of the
best home and car insurance bundles
  • Enroll in a safe driving program: Hummers’ reputation for aggressive on-road behavior can be a barrier to low auto insurance rates. Sign up to track your driving with your insurer’s telematics program, and you might see a significant discount.
  • Reduce your coverage: If your Hummer is worth less than $4,000, or if you don’t drive it often, you might be able to reduce your coverage limits to avoid overpaying for insurance.
  • Explore discounts: Most insurance companies offer
    discounts to drivers
based on demographics, payment habits, and more.

FAQs

The average cost of insurance for a Hummer vehicle is $1,980 per year for full coverage or $1,140 per year for state minimum coverage.
As older, larger vehicles, Hummers can be expensive to maintain—especially if your Hummer has a lot of mods or is used for off-roading.
The 2024 GMC Hummer EV hasn’t yet hit the market, so insurance pricing information isn’t yet available. However, you can expect it to cost a pretty penny. Electric vehicles cost more to insure than gas-powered vehicles, and the Hummer EV’s high starting price will contribute to steep insurance premiums.

Methodology

The Insurance Research Team analyzes insurance products and services to drive insights and help consumers make informed purchase decisions.
Insurance research: We analyzed over 25 million car insurance quotes; conducted the largest insurance shopping survey (over 15,000 customers surveyed and 85 carriers reviewed in the past 18 months).
We surveyed insurance policyholders for their experience with their insurers in the following areas: (1) insurance cost (2) customer service (3) insurance buying experience (4) insurance renewal experience (5) claim experience. In addition, we asked people what they like about their insurers and what areas in which their insurers could improve. The driver characteristics used in calculating average rates for auto insurance include: single driver, single car, currently insured, clean driving record.
