If you’ve recently replaced the battery in your Honda, you might need to enter the radio code before you can use the sound system. You can find the code to override this security measure in your glove box, on your owner’s manual, or via an online lookup.
Car ownership is all about the numbers you don’t think twice about until you really, really need them—like your Honda radio code, which allows you to restart the stereo after the battery dies. This super-important code helps to deter sound system theft, but it can pose a serious annoyance if you’re not sure where to find that code.

Why do I need a Honda radio code?

If you’ve never seen your Honda’s radio blinking with the “code” message, you might feel a little bamboozled. Shouldn’t your radio work automatically when you start the car? You’ve never needed a code to listen to Taylor Swift before, so why now?
The answer’s pretty simple: your radio asks for a code if the battery has recently died or been replaced. It’s a security measure that helps to deter stereo theft, which is good news for you (especially if you don’t have
sound system insurance
).
But if you don’t have the code at the ready, it can feel like a huge pain—because you won’t be able to use the radio until you enter the code.

How to find your Honda radio code

Luckily, finding your Honda radio code is pretty easy. There are a few ways to locate the code—and you may even be able to get the radio working again without it!
Start by pressing and holding the power button for about two seconds. In certain cases, that’s all it takes to reset the radio—no code needed!
If the power button trick doesn’t work, you will need the code. The top two places to look are your glove compartment and owner’s manual. The radio code is typically written on a sticker in one of these locations, along with the radio serial number and, in some cases, navigation codes. Look for a sticker that says “Anti-Theft Radio Code” or something similar.
You’re looking for a simple five-digit code—anything longer is the wrong code.

How to look up your Honda radio code

Let’s say you’re not great with records. Maybe you’ve lost your owner’s manual and can’t find a sticker in the glove box. No worries—you’ll still be able to look up your radio code. It’ll just take a few extra steps.
Before you can find your code, you’ll need two other numbers: your
vehicle identification number (VIN)
and your radio’s serial number. You can find the serial number in two different ways, depending on the age of your Honda:
  • For Hondas from model year 2002 and later: Press and hold down all six preset buttons simultaneously while turning your key to the ON position. After a few seconds, you should see a 10-digit serial number displayed.
  • For Hondas from model year 2001 or older: You’ll have to remove the radio from the dashboard physically to read the serial number printed on the body of the stereo unit.
Once you’ve got your VIN and radio serial number, you can look up your Honda radio code either using
an online lookup tool
or by calling 1-800-999-1009
If all else fails, drive to your nearest Honda dealer for assistance. The dealership should be able to find all the information you need and track down that all-important radio code.

This app is great, but the customer service is even better! Not to mention convenient! My husband and I got the lowest rate (much lower than the rates I was finding online through my own searches), quickly, and pretty much all through text message! Thank you so much for a hassle free experience👍
