Why your 2004 Honda Civic needs a radio code

Car radios are often a target of theft—which is why manufacturers like Honda came up with radio codes to deter would-be stereo swipers and keep your radio safe. That’s why every time your battery dies,is disconnected,or is replaced, your radio will ask you for a code before you can use it normally again.
While great for deterring thefts, it’s not so great when you’re just trying to listen to your morning NPR station or relaxing post-work playlist. Thankfully, it’s pretty to easy to get your hands on the magic number you need to reset your radio—below, we’ll cover a few different ways.

How to find your 2004 Honda Civic radio code

You may not actually need your radio code, despite what the flashing “code” message would have you believe! Before you start looking, try pressing and holding down your radio’s power button for two seconds. Often, this is all it takes to reset your radio and get it back in working order!
If the button trick doesn’t get you results, you’ll have to look for the radio code yourself.
The first place to check is your Civic’s glove compartment: keep an eye out for a sticker that says “Anti-Theft Radio Code” (or something along those lines). Usually, this sticker will also have your radio serial number printed on it. The radio code will be 5 numerical digits—anything longer than five digits or featuring letters isn’t the code you’re looking for.
If you can’t find the code in the glove box, check your owner’s manual instead—there should be a similar sticker attached somewhere on the front or inside cover.

How to look up a 2004 Honda Civic radio code

No sticker? No manual? No problem! Even if you can’t find any trace of your radio code in the glove box or owner’s manual, you can still look it up using your
vehicle identification number (VIN)
and radio serial number.
You can find your VIN on most of your car’s identifying papers, including your registration and insurance cards, any financial statements (like from a dealership or your insurance) you may have laying around, or possibly even stamped onto the driver’s side of your windshield.
To find your radio serial number, you’ll have to put in slightly more elbow grease: start by simultaneously holding down preset buttons 1 through 6, then turn your key to the ON position at the same time. This will start up your car’s electrical components—after a few seconds, a 10-digit alphanumeric code should appear on the radio display. You’ll want to write this down, as it’s your radio serial number.
Once you’ve got both numbers copied down, you can use Honda’s
online search tool
or call 1-800-999-1009 to get your actual radio code. Alternatively, you can take your
Honda Civic
to your local Honda dealer instead, where a technician can easily look up the information you need to crack your radio code once and for all.

This app is great, but the customer service is even better! Not to mention convenient! My husband and I got the lowest rate (much lower than the rates I was finding online through my own searches), quickly, and pretty much all through text message! Thank you so much for a hassle free experience👍
