background
You can find your Honda’s radio code in your glove box, owner’s manual, or through an online search.
  • The radio code is an anti-theft device triggered any time your car battery is disconnected.
  • Look in your glove box or owner’s manual for the five-digit code.
  • Alternatively, call Honda with your VIN and the radio serial number to get the radio code.

Honda CR-V radio codes are an anti-theft measure

What: Radio codes are anti-theft measures that protect your radio. Without the code, the stereo won’t work.
Why: Anytime your radio loses connection to your battery—either because the radio was disconnected, the battery died, or the battery was replaced—your radio will request a radio code.

How to find your Honda CR-V radio code

First, you’ll want to make sure you even need a radio code. Some automotive radios will reset after you hold the power button down for two seconds.
You're good to go if the radio resets and begins working again. If that doesn’t work, you'll need to find the radio code. It can be found in the:
  • Glove box
  • Owner’s manual
Look for a white sticker attached to the interior of your glove compartment or your owner's manual. The sticker will say Anti-Theft Radio Code and it’s a five-digit code with no letters.
FYI, this process is similar for most Acura and Honda models (like the Honda Accord, Honda Civic, Odyssey, and others).

How to look up your Honda CR-V radio code

Can’t find the navigation code? There are other ways to learn your car radio code. You will need your
vehicle identification number (VIN)
and your radio’s serial number to contact a local Honda dealer.
VIN: Your VIN number should be written on your vehicle registration, insurance card, and directly on the vehicle either on the driver’s side door jamb or at the bottom of the windshield on the dash.
Radio unit serial number: For the radio’s serial number, how you find it depends on the model year of your CR-V.
  • 2002 and newer Hondas: Click and hold the 1 and 6 radio preset buttons, then turn your car into the ON position. This turns on the electrical components but doesn’t start the engine. When the radio receives power, it’ll show the ten-digit serial number on the radio display.
  • 2001 and older Hondas: The serial number will be on the radio itself. You’ll need to remove it from the dash to find the radio code. Check your manual to learn how to properly remove your radio.
With these two numbers on hand, you can use one of the following resources to receive your radio unlock code:
  • Honda’s free
    online lookup tool
  • Call Honda’s automated phone number: 1-800-999-1009
  • Bring your Honda to the nearest dealership or service center
Once you have the code, turn your radio on and enter the five digits using the radio preset buttons.
