Overview: what is a Genesis extended warranty?

When you buy a brand-new vehicle, you can generally expect a warranty to also come along with it. A factory warranty guarantees that the automaker will cover the cost of repairing particular parts or defects due to design or manufacturing issues. Genesis Complete Confidence is a comprehensive ownership program that includes a 10-year/100,000-mile powertrain limited warranty along with a 5-year/60,000-mile bumper-to-bumper warranty.
But when your factory warranty expires, an extended warranty—also known as a vehicle service contract—guarantees continuing coverage for the cost of certain repairs beyond your vehicle’s factory warranty. While many automakers offer various extended warranty plans, Genesis only has one extended coverage option: the Genesis Protection Plan. This extended protection plan covers your luxury Genesis vehicle for up to another 10 years or 120,000 miles

Genesis Protection Plan Vehicle Contract Service (VCS): coverage and cost

The Genesis Protection Plan Vehicle Contract Service (VCS) extends coverage options for up to 1,500 components after your factory Genesis warranty has expired. This Genesis VCS is available nationwide at all participating Genesis dealerships and you won’t have to pay for covered repairs other than the deductible you select that varies in price.
The Genesis Protection Plan comes with additional perks such as 24-hour roadside assistance (including towing to your nearest authorized service provider) and
rental car reimbursement

As a bonus, you’ll also receive trip interruption coverage that includes a $200-per-day reimbursement for meals and lodging for a maximum of five days if you have a mechanical breakdown while traveling.

What’s covered

The Genesis Protection Plan VCS essentially doubles the life of your original powertrain limited warranty and protects up to 1,500 vehicle parts in your luxury vehicle. Systems covered include:
  • Powertrain (including engine, transmission, and drive axle components)
  • Climate control (including air conditioning and heating components)
  • Shocks and suspension (including suspension bearings and bushings)
  • Fuel system (including fuel injections)
  • Steering system (including power steering)
  • Brakes (including anti-lock braking system components)
  • Electrical system (including power windows and seats)
  • Navigation, audio, and high-tech systems (including nearly all factory-installed technology and safety features)
Aside from the extended warranty plan, Genesis offers additional optional protection plans, including:
  • Genesis Protection Plan Pre-Paid Scheduled Maintenance Plus: covers regular maintenance services like oil changes and tire rotations along with replacements for parts such as your battery, brake pads, windshield wiper blades, and more.
  • Term-Protection Plus: covers the cost of repairs from everyday vehicle wear, including your battery, brake pads, wheel alignment, and more.
  • Lease-end Protection: if you’re leasing your Genesis, this plan helps to minimize lease-end costs with up to a $5,000 waiver benefit for up to 200 excess miles.
  • Loss Protection: Genesis offers guaranteed asset protection or
    gap insurance
in the event that your vehicle is either stolen or totaled and your insurance provider won’t cover your remaining loan balance.
The duration of the Pre-Paid Scheduled Maintenance Plus plan lasts for up to five years or 75,000 miles, while the Term-Protection Plus and Loss Protection plans last for up to four years or 60,000 miles
You may also add on additional damage care protection plans such as Tire and Wheel Protection, Dent and Ding Protection, Windshield Repair Protection, and Key Replacement Protection.

What isn’t covered

While the Genesis Protection Plan covers a wide range of components—it doesn’t cover all possible repairs. Here’s what your VSC won’t cover, regardless of which plan you choose:
  • Mechanical breakdowns (these are covered by your manufacturer’s warranty)
  • Damage caused by an accident, collision, vandalism, or weather-related circumstances
  • Damage caused by a lack of maintenance or pre-existing conditions

Duration

The duration of your Genesis extended warranty lasts for up to an additional 10 years or 120,000 miles—whichever comes first. Of course, this doesn’t mean you have to add a whole ten years of coverage. After you buy your new Genesis vehicle, you can add on your extended warranty coverage at the time of purchase or you can purchase this protection plan a few months before your limited powertrain warranty is set to expire.

Cost

The exact cost of your Genesis Protection Plan depends on the duration and deductible you select, as well as the price you negotiate with your Genesis dealer. Genesis owners tend to pay between an average of $1,500 to $3,000 for extended warranty coverage depending on the extended warranty length.
Like many automakers, Genesis does not disclose their extended warranty pricing on its website. But you can expect the following factors to impact your total cost:
  • Your specific Genesis model and year
  • Your financing terms
  • Your warranty length
  • Choosing between a higher or lower deductible
Remember that the higher your deductible, the lower your overall warranty costs will be. And don’t forget to also factor in additional optional protection plans—such as the luxury automaker's Pre-Paid Scheduled Maintenance Plus, Lease-End Protection, Term-Protection Plus, or Loss Protection—to your final extended warranty price tag.
Genesis offers a monthly payment option—but if you decide to go this route, please be aware that you may end up paying interest on your extended warranty.

Is it worth getting a Genesis extended warranty?

Obtaining an extended warranty boils down to personal preference. While having established vehicle repair costs covered can certainly make you feel at ease for the long haul, the additional cost of an extended warranty may not be worth the final price tag. If you’re thinking about purchasing a Genesis extended warranty, it’s always a good idea to first review your options and negotiate a fair price with your local Genesis dealer.
If you’re on the fence about purchasing a Genesis extended warranty, one alternative to consider is
mechanical breakdown insurance
(MBI), which may be available through your insurance provider. MBI coverage helps to cover the costs of mechanical repairs (not caused by regular wear and tear) after your vehicle’s factory warranty expires.

This app is great, but the customer service is even better! Not to mention convenient! My husband and I got the lowest rate (much lower than the rates I was finding online through my own searches), quickly, and pretty much all through text message! Thank you so much for a hassle free experience👍
