How to use Direct Auto’s roadside assistance program

First, you need to add roadside assistance to your existing Direct Auto policy.
To do this, call the company at 1-877-GO-DIRECT (1-877-463-4732) to add this coverage. Be aware that the addition may not become active until your policy renews. Check with the agent about this.

If you need roadside assistance now, call the Direct Auto roadside assistance number: 1-877-463-4732.
Tell them where you are located and what kind of help you require. The company will dispatch a Direct Auto technician to your location as soon as possible.
Do not call for roadside assistance if you get into an accident. If your vehicle needs to be towed, your collision coverage or the at-fault driver’s property damage policy may cover the cost of your tow. If you caused the accident, you may have to pay for the tow out-of-pocket.

How much does Direct Auto roadside assistance cost?

You can expect to pay between $4 and $15 per month ($60 to $180 annually)  to add roadside assistance to your Direct Auto policy. The price will depend partially on your state and the local cost of providing service.
Without coverage, you could pay about $150 out-of-pocket for a single service call. So if you use your roadside assistance coverage just one time, it will be worth the investment.
Direct Auto’s price is pretty typical, if slightly more expensive than other companies' prices. Most companies offer some type of roadside assistance add-on, although it’s usually called
towing and labor coverage
. For instance,
GEICO’s
prices are much lower at just $15 per year—but GEICO may not offer the best prices for you when it comes to full coverage. On the other hand, an
AAA membership
is approximately $59.99 per year and you can use it with any car, not just your own.
Keep in mind that, to be eligible for roadside assistance, you must have full-coverage car insurance with Direct Auto. Full-coverage policies are more expensive than basic liability coverage, so your premium will be a bit higher than it would be with a bare minimum policy.
In summary, Direct Auto’s roadside assistance covers most of the same services at a similar price to other companies. However, AAA membership may offer more value for some drivers.

Direct Auto roadside assistance vs. AAA

There is one major difference between AAA’s roadside assistance and the assistance offered by an insurance company (including Direct Auto).
AAA benefits can be applied to any vehicle you happen to be driving in or riding in, but Direct Auto’s roadside assistance coverage applies only to the vehicle listed on your policy.
Furthermore, there is only one level of coverage available with Direct Auto’s roadside assistance program. When you
join AAA
, on the other hand, you’ll notice that there are two different tiers of coverage. Plus, AAA members receive additional perks such as travel, hotel, and restaurant discounts.
For some drivers, it may work better to choose Direct Auto roadside assistance, however.
Some people find it more convenient to purchase roadside assistance through their own insurance company. With one phone call, you can add this coverage to your existing Direct Auto policy and enjoy roadside assistance coverage 24/7. This allows you to manage everything through a single portal.
Plus, AAA limits you to four service calls per year. Direct Auto has no limit to the number of requests you can make for roadside assistance.
Keep in mind that you may already have some roadside assistance via your credit card, cell phone company, or auto manufacturer. Check your policies carefully to find out if you have this coverage.
