background
Country Financial’s good student discount helps save young drivers up to 25% on their annual car insurance costs. To qualify, you must be a full-time high school or college student with a B average.
Cheap car insurance
is hard to come by for young drivers. Statistically speaking, young drivers are at a high risk of getting into an accident, and so
car insurance
companies cover their behinds by offering high insurance rates to the young drivers they insure. But, there are a few ways that young drivers can lower their insurance premiums.
From good student discounts to taking a defensive driving course, young students have several options for
car insurance discounts
. Let's get into it.

How to get Country Financial’s good student discount

One of the best discounts that a young driver can get with Country Financial is their good student discount. With this discount, young drivers can save up to 25% on their car insurance. The discount is available to full-time high school and college students with a B average, which translates to a GPA of around 3.0.
Country Financial only operates in 19 states, so you won’t be able to access their good student discount just anywhere. But if you live in one of the following states, you’re in luck:

How to qualify

To be considered for a good student discount with Country Financial, you must:
  • Maintain a B average
  • Be enrolled in full-time studies in high school or college
Country Financial doesn’t specify any age limit for their good student discount, however, most insurance companies who offer similar discounts limit access to drivers 25 years of age and under.
Aside from that, the requirements are fairly uncomplicated for students enrolled in a high school or college. Homeschooled students, on the other hand, might have a tougher time accessing Country Financial’s good student discount. The company makes no mention of the process for homeschooled applicants but providing a national standardized test like an SAT or an ACT with a score in the top 20% might be helpful.

How long does Country Financial’s good student discount last?

Good student discounts usually only last until a driver turns 25 but, as mentioned above, Country Financial makes no mention of any age limits for this discount. They do mention that the good student discount is only available to unmarried customers, but don’t worry—they also offer an engaged couple discount of up to 25%.
And, while the good student discount is only available for current full-time students with a B average, Country Financial also offers a discount of up to 25% to college graduates regardless of GPA. So, if you’re a good student, you can keep the savings going for a good long time.

Why do auto insurers offer good student discounts?

It may seem strange that a car insurance company would offer discounts in exchange for good grades—after all, what does acing your biology test have to do with your driving abilities?
The reason Country Financial and other institutions like
State Farm
and
GEICO
offer good student discounts is because, in their eyes, good grades show responsibility. Insurance companies believe that, by getting good grades, students demonstrate their ability to follow instructions and meet deadlines, two qualities that make for a responsible insurance customer. In short, insurance providers want customers who will follow road instructions and pay their premiums before the deadline.

The best Country Financial car insurance discounts for students

Drivers with Country Financial’s good student discount can save up to 25% on their auto coverage. How much you actually save will depend on other things, like your driving record. But there are more ways to save on your Country Financial car insurance than just making the honor roll.
Here is a look at some of the other Country Financial
car insurance discounts
that high school and college students can take advantage of.

Student away at school discount

Many insurance providers offer
student-away-at-school discounts
, which reduce your premiums if your grown-up child listed on your auto insurance policy is away attending school. This can be a good way save money and keep them covered when they come home for the holidays and use your car.
In order to qualify, most insurance companies require your dependent to be living more than 100 miles away, be under 22 years old, and not have a car with them where they are attending school.
Unfortunately Country Financial doesn’t explicitly offer a student away-at-school discount, but a similar discount can be leveraged under the multi-car discount that Country Financial does offer (more on that below).

Driver training discount

Successfully completing a state-approved driver education course can qualify teen drivers for a
driver training discount
of up to 10% on their Country Financial car insurance costs. This discount isn’t available in all states, so you’ll want to contact your local Country Financial representative to find out what’s available in your area and how to qualify.

Multiple auto and multiple line discounts

If you have multiple cars listed on your Country Financial car insurance policy, you may be able to get a discount if one of the drivers listed is single, under 25 years old, and living away from home. Check with a Country Financial agent for details.

Simply Drive®

Country Financial’s Simply Drive Course teaches basic driver safety lessons to young drivers. Successful completion of the Simply Drive Course can save you up to 10% on your car insurance premiums.
To qualify for this program you must be 16 or 17 years old. Upon successful completion of the Simply Drive Course you must print out a participation agreement and your legal guardian must meet with a Country Financial representative before the discount can come into effect.

Good Driver Discount

Drivers who demonstrate responsible driving habits often qualify for
good driver discounts
, and the best way to demonstrate responsible driving habits is by simply not getting into an accident. The period over which you’ll need to be accident-free depends on what state you’re in, but generally, you’ll need to have a clean driving record for between three to seven years.

Defensive Driving Discount

Country Financial offers an auto insurance discount of up to 5% for teens who complete a
defensive driving course
. Defensive driving courses teach drivers to navigate high-pressure driving situations. These courses also cover legal topics such as DUI/DWI laws and moving violation penalties.
The size of this discount varies from state to state.
