2022 Jeep Grand Wagoneer MPG

The 2022 Grand Wagoneer’s combined 15 miles per gallon is unimpressive but to be expected from Jeep’s biggest SUV.

Jeep’s biggest and most expensive SUV, the Grand Wagoneer, gets 13 miles per gallon (MPG) in the city, 18 on the highway, and 15 combined, but people rarely buy massive eight-seater SUVs for their fuel economy.
The Grand Wagoneer is the biggest Jeep out there, and it’s powerful and luxurious enough (at higher trim levels) to compete with luxury brands. It has everything you might expect from a behemoth ute: monstrous towing capacity, palatial interior space, and tons of infotainment features. It just isn’t remotely fuel-efficient.
Read on for a breakdown of the 2022 Jeep Grand Wagoneer’s MPG specs.

2022 Jeep Grand Wagoneer fuel economy

The 2022 Grand Wagoneer comes with one of two engines, and gas mileage varies ever so slightly between them.
  • 471-horsepower 6.4-liter V8: 13 city / 18 highway / 15 combined
  • 510-horsepower twin-turbo 3.0-liter V6: 14 city / 20 highway / 17 combined
The difference in fuel economy between the two engines is negligible, but with its 26.5-gallon fuel tank, the gallons will certainly add up.
Regardless of the engine, the Grand Wagoneer’s fuel efficiency is undeniably abysmal. It’s not exactly surprising, though. SUVs of this size are the most inefficient passenger vehicles out there. They’re not built to sip fuel—they’re built to seat eight people comfortably and tow over 8,000 pounds.

Is the 2022 Jeep Grand Wagoneer good on gas?

Nope! Not even a little bit. Not even compared to other full-size SUVs like the
Lexus LX
, which gets up to 22 mpg on the highway, or the
Chevy Suburban
or
Cadillac Escalade
, both of which get up to 27 mpg on the highway.
Though all of these can reach prices in the six figures with optional upgrades on higher trim levels, the Grand Wagoneer is among the most expensive from the get-go, with a starting MSRP of $89,995.

How to improve fuel efficiency for a 2022 Jeep Grand Wagoneer

Though no one’s mistaking the Grand Wagoneer for a hybrid anytime soon, there are a few ways to maximize what fuel economy it has:
  • Drive gently and use cruise control: Accelerating drastically burns a ton of fuel, so limiting that by using cruise control will help.
  • Empty the car out when possible: The more weight in the car, the more fuel it’ll use up, so limiting its cargo to what’s essential will lighten the engine’s load.
  • Regular maintenance: Monitoring tire pressure, regular tire rotations, and regular oil changes won’t improve your mileage, but they’ll certainly keep it from getting worse.
