The 2021 Acura TLX Type S can do a respectable 0-60 in 5.1 seconds, but it’s still not quite enough to beat the competition.
The 2021 Acura TLX
Type S marked the return of the “Type S” badge after a hiatus of several years, and the four door sports sedan lives up to the designation. Critics loved the Type S for its performance and spirited driving experience, and Acura claims that they only planned to make about 2,000 units of this trim level. If you want to dig into the 0-60 specs of the 2021 Acura TLX Type S and see how it stacks up to the competition, you’ve come to the right place. Jerry

2021 Acura TLX Type S 0-60 time
MotorTrend reports that the 2021 Acura TLX Type S will go from 0 to 60 mph in 5.1 seconds, and will do the quarter-mile in 13.7 seconds at 101.8 mph. Our lead-footed friends at Car and Driver, however, reported a 0-60 time of 4.9 seconds, and a quarter-mile of 13.6 seconds at 103 mph.
Which Acura TLX Type S engine is the fastest?
The TLX Type S is the top trim level, and there’s only one engine available. All-wheel drive is standard on the Type S.
So what’s under the hood? The TLX Type S is packing a 3.5-liter turbocharged V6 engine that kicks out 355 horsepower and 354 lb-ft of torque. While that provides plenty of power and an impressive surge, Car and Driver reported that it’s working against a curb weight of a little over 4,200 pounds—which drags it down a bit.
Can it beat the competition?
The Acura TLX Type S’s 0-60 time is certainly nothing to sneeze at, but when you compare it to the competition it falls a little short. When compared to similar models, the TLX’s time is definitely on the slower side of the spectrum.
Take a look at the 0-60 times of some of the TLX’s major competitors in the field of sports sedans:
Cadillac
CT5-V: 3.4 seconds with automatic transmission, 3.6 seconds with the six-speed version
Even if you go by Car and Driver’s time of 4.9 seconds, the Acura TLX Type S is still slower than the competition, sometimes by a second or more.
When it comes to price range, the 2021 Acura TLX Type S had a starting MSRP of $52,300. This is roughly in line with the competition, and a few competitors (Cadillac, Genesis) actually start at a few thousand lower.
So why go with the 2021 Acura TLX Type S? It’s entirely up to you. Some folks are just Acura fans, and there’s nothing wrong with sticking with what you like. Plus, it’s a great car—the reviews are glowing pretty much across the board, with high praises being given for performance, handling, and overall driving joy. But if you have to have the fastest sports sedan in this class, the Acura TLX Type S isn’t that.
