2019 Chevrolet Silverado 1500

To best appreciate the Special Edition 1500s, you need to have a proper understanding of the 2019 Chevrolet Silverado 1500 base model.
The Silverado 1500 has been a popular option among truck enthusiasts since it first hit the market. It’s dependable, rugged, and more than capable of holding its own against noted rivals like the
Ford F-150
,
Toyota Tundra
, and
Ram 1500
.
Of course, like any vehicle, the Silverado 1500 does have its weaknesses. Some models were prone to fuel sensor issues and erratic dash gauges. There have also been reports of suspension issues and even instances of models rolling away.
This model mostly plays to its strengths, though. One of its best features is its gas mileage—surprising for such a rugged truck. It gets about 23 mpg in the city and 31 mpg on the highway. These numbers are hard to beat in its class, and with gas prices skyrocketing, good fuel economy is more important than ever. Who doesn’t want to save a few bucks at the pump?
Most Silverado 1500s get about 89.1 cubic feet of cargo space in the trunk bed. It can also carry roughly 2,250 pounds of payload.
Key specs
  • Starting MSRP from $37,448
  • 2.7L turbo 5.3L Eco Tec3 with DFM engine
  • 310 to 420 hp
  • 4-star NHTSA rating

  • Realtree is available on the 1500 crew cab LTZ Z71 models. It has a Realtree exterior camouflage graphics package, black off-road assist steps, and embroidered head restraints.
  • Special Ops is available on the 1500 WT double cap models. It has all-terrain tires, deep-tinted windows, naval-inspired graphics, and sport assist steps.
  • Alaskan is available on the 2500 HD. It has Alaskan bear graphics, smoked amber roof marker lights and beacon, and 18-inch black aluminum wheels.
  • Black Out is available on the 1500 regular cab and double cab WT models. It has black grille and headlamp bezels, deep-tinted windows, and black Chevy bowtie emblems.
Each of these editions has a different starting price. It’s a process to discover which is right for you but each offers value and some cool features.

2019 Chevrolet Silverado 1500 Special Edition vs. EX

It can get complicated comparing each special edition to the base. It’s important to note that there can be a big price difference. For example, the Special Ops model has an MSRP of $53,856 whereas the base Silverado 1500, called the Work Truck (WT), is priced at $37,448
The WT includes:
  • Regular cab, crew cab, and double cab options
  • Durabed box
  • 4.2 or 4x4 drive system
  • 4.3L EcoTec3 V6 engine
  • Rear vision camera
  • Bluetooth
It’s fair to say that the WT offers enough value to make it a great buy. Browsing through the list of “extras” on the special editions, it’s clear that most are aesthetic or fun—not functional. A black exterior with camouflage is cool, but it won’t make the car run better.
If you want the most bang for the buck, go for the WT model. If you want to splurge a bit and add some perks and some personality to your truck, then upgrade to the model you think sounds the best.
