2019 Chevrolet Camaro Coupe

Loads of power, sharp handling, and muscle-car machismo make the Camaro a ton of fun to drive—but practical, this roadster is not.

The 2019 Chevrolet Camaro is a powerful, bruising muscle car that boasts a ton of power, delicious cornering chops, and plenty of on-road bravado—however, the 2019 Camaro is not a practical daily driver, with little storage space and a near-total lack of driver-assist technology. It had a starting MSRP ranging from $25,000 to $62,000 depending on trim, but you’ll find a used one for between $23,000 and $68,000.
In this country, the muscle car never goes out of style—but while the 2019 Camaro is a sports car lover's dream, it’s more of a special occasion vehicle for most people. That said, if you don’t regularly carry multiple passengers or transport much cargo, you can probably make it work.

Big, brash, and loud: the 2019 Chevrolet Camaro Coupe

The 2019 Chevrolet Camaro was available in six trim levels, starting from $25,500, but even the base trim offered plenty of automotive punch to get anyone’s juices flowing.
The Camaro was available as a convertible as well, with base options powered by a turbocharged 2.0-liter 4-cylinder engine with 275 horsepower and 295 pound-feet of torque. A 6-speed manual transmission is standard on all trims, though an 8-speed automatic transmission was available as an option.
Higher trims were offered with a
3.6-liter V6 engine
with 335 horsepower and 284 pound-feet of torque or a 6.2-liter V8 engine with 455 horsepower and 465 pound-feet of torque. The top-trim
ZL1
trim comes standard with a road-scorching 6.2-liter V8 engine with 650 horsepower and 650 pound-feet of torque.
According to Edmunds, the 2019 Camaro roared from 0 to 60 miles per hour in a scant 4.1 seconds. It provides 20 miles per gallon combined in both city and highway driving.

Is the 2019 Chevrolet Camaro Coupe comfortable?

Well, “comfortable” is a relative term—the Camaro’s ride is very smooth, and its ample power and superb handling make driving it a sheer joy. The front seats are comfortable enough, offering decent support while not feeling confining despite the somewhat tight cabin.
The rear seats are an entirely different story—small and uncomfortable, the Camaro coupe’s rear seat is suitable for kids only. Getting into and out of the Camaro’s front seats can be a bit of a chore, but getting into the Camaro’s rear seats is akin to squeezing yourself through a tank turret—tight, awkward, and unwieldy.
Visibility is also a problem with the Camaro, through the front and rear windshields, as well as the side windows. Piloting this monster can be tough in tight spaces, as the Camaro’s wide body can be hard to place on the road.

Is the 2019 Chevrolet Camaro Coupe reliable?

The 2019 Camaro has mixed reviews when it comes to reliability—RepairPal gives it an average reliability rating of 3.5/5, while JD Power gave the 2019 Camaro an 85/100 reliability rating, which is quite good. The 2019 Camaro is estimated to have an average annual repair cost of $585, which is average.

Is the 2019 Chevrolet Camaro Coupe safe?

Even if the 2019 Camaro Coupe seriously lacks advanced driver-assist technology, it is actually a safe vehicle, receiving five stars from the National Highway Transportation Safety Administration (NHTSA), though it was rated only four stars in terms of frontal crash risks. The 2019 Camaro was not tabbed as a Top Safety Pick by the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS).
In terms of driver-assist technology, the 2019 Camaro is way behind the times, without even collision intervention or mitigation equipment, automatic emergency braking, or adaptive cruise control. The 2019 Camaro does feature airbags, stability control, traction control, and a backup camera.

2019 Chevrolet Camaro Coupe trim levels

The 2019 Camaro Coupe was available in seven trim levels—the 1LS, 1LT, 2LT, 3LT, 1SS, 2SS, and ZL1, with a starting price for the base trim at $25,500. The base trim offers solid value considering the price. Here’s what you’d get with the 2019
1LS
trim:
  • 18-inch wheels
  • LED running lights
  • Limited slip differential (manual transmission only)
  • Keyless entry and ignition
  • Cruise control
  • 8-way power adjustable driver’s seat
  • Leather-wrapped steering wheel
  • Bluetooth, OnStar emergency communication system
Upgrade to the
1LT
trim, and you got everything in the 1LS trim along with the option to upgrade to the Technology Package, which offered the following:
  • 9-speaker Bose audio system
  • 8-inch MyLink touchscreen
  • Bluetooth with advanced connectivity features
The 2LT trim brought a more powerful V6 engine along with the aforementioned Technology Package as well as the Convenience and Lighting Package, which brought the following:
  • Rear parking sensors
  • Color information display for the gauge cluster
  • Head-up display
  • Heated steering wheel
  • Wireless smartphone charging
  • Blind-spot monitoring
  • Rear cross-traffic alert
  • Forward collision monitoring
On the 3LT trim, Chevrolet upped the Camaro’s performance and technology bonafides, offering:
  • A 6.2-liter V6 engine
  • GPS navigation
  • Auto-dimming rearview mirror
  • Convenience and Lighting Package
  • Heated steering wheel
  • Wireless smartphone charging
The
1SS
trim brings the Camaro’s sportiness to a new level with a rumbling V8 engine and more performance upgrades, including:
  • 6-speed manual transmission or 10-speed automatic transmission
  • 20-inch wheels
  • Brembo brakes
  • Performance suspension
  • Upgraded engine cooling
  • Track driving mode
  • Rear spoiler
  • Xenon headlights
  • 8-inch touchscreen, enhanced information display
The
2SS
trim features all the 3LT features along with the Convenience and Lighting Package, as well as unique interior flourishes and a rearview camera mirror.
The top-trim ZL1, which had a starting MSRP of $62,000, blew the roof off its Camaro trim brethren with a fire-breathing V8 engine and other enhancements:
  • All 1SS and 2SS extras
  • Launch control
  • 19-inch forged aluminum wheels
  • Wider tires
  • Race-oriented suspension dampers
  • Carbon-fiber hood and rear-spoiler
  • Sunroof
Of course, insuring a sports car like the Camaro can mean your insurance premium will be higher than the average car, especially if your blood will boil if you don’t get your hands on the ZL1. Usually you’ll want to opt for a middle-tier trim to get the best balance between performance, features, and a reasonable insurance premium.
