The most common problems drivers have with the 2017
Jeep Renegade
have to do with engine issues, such as stalling and burning through oil. However, electrical and powertrain issues have also been reported.
Jeep is known for creating rough-and-tumble vehicles perfectly suited for the road less traveled, and the 2017 Renegade has maintained that status, even earning the Best Sub-Compact SUV award during the 2017 TAWA Texas Truck Rodeo. Unfortunately, that doesn’t mean that the vehicle is without its problems.

The most common 2017 Jeep Renegade problems

Drivers of the 2017 Jeep Renegade tend to report some repeat problems—especially with the vehicle’s engine.
Of the hundreds of customer complaints made to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA), many cite engine issues. For example, some drivers complain about the Jeep Renegade’s 2.4-liter four-cylinder engine consuming far too much oil. Additionally, some drivers report that their vehicles are stalling out on the highway.
NHTSA Campaign Number 18V131000 discusses a recall for some models with the 2.4-liter engine, noting that there could be a cracked oil pump housing or balance shaft module contributing to the oil issues and stalling.
The 2017 Renegade’s electrical system also seems to have some faults. While not as dangerous as an engine malfunction, drivers have reported to Edmunds that their radios and navigation systems are often glitchy
NHTSA Campaign Number 17V485000 has attempted to remedy this problem by instructing dealers to update the Instrument Panel Control software. Drivers who have completed this task reported that their issues haven’t been resolved long-term, however.
Finally, the Renegade’s transmission seems to be the next common issue articulated by Jeep owners. They report that the acceleration can be quite jerky, hard shifting is common, and loud clunking often occurs.
Other less common issues reported to the NHTSA include:
  • Fuel system problems
  • Brake issues
