The most common 2016 Acura ILX problems

Overall, the 2016 Acura ILX is a safe vehicle, with an overall rating of 5/5 stars with the
National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA)
. Like any car, however, it has its problems — some more dangerous than others.
One of the 2016 Acura ILX’s problems is sudden acceleration when braking. Some drivers experienced their ILX suddenly speeding up when driving at low speeds. Some reported accelerating from 5 mph to 25 mph with their foot on the brake. The cost to repair this defect is between $500 to $700.
Another key problem to consider is the four 2016 Acura ILX recalls:
  • Driver’s frontal air bag inflator may rupture. If a crash occurs, triggering the airbags to deploy, the ILX’s inflator could rupture, causing metal fragments to hit the driver or passengers. This affected models with a dual-stage driver frontal air bag prone to moisture, which causes the inflator to rupture.
  • Inaccurate fuel gauge reading. This becomes a problem if your
    fuel gauge
displays that your ILX has more fuel than it really does. Without warning, you could find yourself stranded on the side of the road with no fuel. In the worst-case scenario, your
    car could stall
    and cause a crash.
  • Driver frontal air bag inflator may explode. Another airbag issue, only here the inflator may explode–also causing sharp metal fragments to hit the driver or passengers. This can lead to serious injury or even death.
  • Half shaft may disengage and allow rollaway. In this case, a separated driveshaft can cause your ILX to have a loss of drive or even move while in Park. This can cause a crash or injury.
The other notable problem with the 2016 and 2017 Acura ILXs is that the engine oil pressure sensor may leak from standard operation.

Is the 2016 Acura ILX reliable?

Despite its issues, the 2016 Acura ILX has above-average reliability scores for compact luxury cars. RepairPal gives the ILX an above-average 4.5/5.0 rating for reliability, but J.D. Power rates the 2016 Acura ILX 80/100.
The average annual cost of 2016 Acura ILX
car repairs
is excellent, at approximately $435. The severity of the repairs is low, and the issues are less frequent, making the ILX one of the most reliable cars out there.
