With a car as souped up as the 2015 Dodge Challenger R/T, the 5.1-second 0-60 time is nothing to sneeze at. Still, it can’t keep up with rivals like the BMW 640i Gran Coupe or the Mercedes-Benz CLS 400.
When it comes to classic American muscle cars, nothing quite fits the bill like the Dodge Challenger—it effortlessly pays homage to automotive history while staying up-to-date with the latest motor trends. It’s a retro-styled beast that boasts a rare combination of raw power and attitude of a muscle car with the style and refinement of a luxury car. And when it comes to speed and performance, you know it will be a blast.

2015 Dodge Challenger R/T 0-60 time

According to tests by Car and Driver, the 5.7L 4,100-pound beast is far from slow, clocking in a 0-60 time of 5.1 seconds. It punches the quarter-mile clock in 13.7 seconds and reaches 100 mph in 12.8 seconds.
As with most muscle cars—and high-performance vehicles, in general—the Challenger comes standard with rear-wheel drive, and all-wheel drive isn’t optional on this model year.

Which Dodge Challenger R/T engine is the fastest?

If you’re looking for face-melting quickness that’ll get your heart racing, the Challenger’s standard V6 engine probably won’t do the trick. But like most supercars and performance beats, the Challenger’s upgraded engine comes with upgraded speed.
The 2015 Challenger has four engine options:
  • 3.6-liter V6 with 305 horsepower
  • 5.7-liter Hemi V8 engine with 375 horsepower
  • 6.4-liter Hemi V8 engine with 485 horsepower
  • 6.2-liter V8 engine with 707 horsepower
The R/T is only available in the 5.7-liter V8, while the
R/T Scat Pack
gets upgraded to the 6.4-liter Hemi V8. All V6 models are stocked with a standard eight-speed automatic transmission, while the V8-powered models have a choice of the same eight-speed automatic or six-speed manual transmission.
Upgrading to the R/T Scat Pack with the 6.4L V8 shaves a few seconds off the 0-60 time, coming in at just 4.2 seconds. But even with a 5.1 second 0-60 time, the R/T still beats out its competition—let’s check them out.

Can it beat the competition?

The Challenger R/T kills it with style, but what happens when you hit the pedal? How does it fare against its biggest rivals? Some of them are close, but in a race to the finish line, the Challenger R/T puts up a serious fight and only has one real competitor.
Here are the zero-to-60 times of some of the Challenger R/T’s biggest competitors in the coupe class:
Based on the numbers, the 2015 Dodge Challenger R/T stands its ground as a high-performance muscle car against some of the fastest coupes. It proves that it’s not all about looks—it has substance.
But when it comes to its competitors, the R/T has one big thing going for it: price. Even as Dodge’s performance car, the 2015 Challenger R/T offers everything you could want in a muscle coupe at an affordable price. Compare that to its direct competitor, the Mercedes-Benz CLS 400, which came at a starting MSRP of $69,415—although a used 2015 model would be less expensive—and the original asking price of $31,995 for the Challenger R/T seems like a serious bargain.
So, if you’re looking for luxury status that comes with a side of speed, the Challenger R/T probably isn’t for you, but if you want all-out raw power with retro-styling, it ticks all the boxes.
