The most common 2014 Infiniti QX80 problems

Let’s start with the good. After all, the 2014 Infiniti QX80 has a lot of strengths. It comes with plentiful standard features, has a powerful V8 engine, and can tow an impressive 8,500 pounds. It’s great for families and can seat up to seven comfortably, although its third-row seats are a bit cramped.

The 2014 QX80 is not without its problems though. Among the 16 complaints filed to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA), five of them are engine-related.

Drivers reported problems with their QX80’s timing chain, as well as unusual sounds coming from underneath their vehicles while starting their engines or during acceleration. In these cases, the vehicles’ timing chains were found to be defective and needed to be replaced.

Other 2014 Infiniti QX80 problems reported to the NHTSA include:

Electrical system failure (car not starting, battery not holding a charge)

Fuel system, gasoline malfunction (fuel smell in the vehicle)

Airbag indicator light malfunction

Rear suspension malfunction

Defective sun visor on the driver’s side

However, many of the problems listed were only reported by one or two drivers. There are only 16 total complaints filed to the NHTSA about the 2014 QX80 over the last eight years, so some of these concerns may be considered one-offs.

That said, the 2014 QX80 does have three formal recalls. They are:

Fuel pressure sensor leak: fuel pressure sensors may not have been tightened enough during production. They could loosen with usage and cause a fuel leak.

Driver’s side frontal airbag rupture: during airbag deployment, a part could get in the way and cause the airbag to rupture, potentially causing metal fragments to strike and injure passengers.

Incorrect GAWR label: in some vehicles, the Gross Axle Weight Rating (GAWR) is listed as 4,497 lb instead of the correct 4,343 lb. An overloaded vehicle increases its risk of being involved in an accident.

Seeing as these recalls happened over five years ago, Nissan should have already contacted the affected vehicles and fixed the issues.

Despite its problems, the 2014 Infiniti QX80has above-average reliability ratings for a full-size SUV. J.D. Power awarded the Infiniti QX80 a 78/100 and Repair Pal gave the SUV a 3.5/5.0.

That said, if you’re looking for the most reliable vehicle, you’d be better off choosing a mainstream vehicle over a luxury one. Honda, Toyota, and Kia are among the car manufacturers with the highest reliability ratings. For example, the

received a 4.5/5.0 rating for reliability and J.D. Power rated it 84/100.

The average annual cost of repairs for a 2014 Infiniti QX80 is $752, which is about average for full-size luxury SUVs from this time. While repairs may be more common with the QX80 than with other SUVs, they will likely be less severe.
