Why your 2014 Honda Civic needs a radio code

If you’ve never owned a vehicle that required a radio code, it may seem like an unnecessary step, but it’s actually a security measure! Car radios are some of the most popular items stolen from vehicles, so having a radio code can help deter thieves and provide a little extra protection for your radio.
Any time your 2014 Honda Civic’s battery is disconnected—whether it’s because it died or needs replacing—your radio will require a code to continue using it. That way, if someone does steal your radio, they are less likely to be able to actually use it.
While a 2014 Honda Civic radio code is a safety measure, it can be a hassle if you aren’t sure how to find it.

How to find your 2014 Honda Civic radio code

Luckily, you won’t need to spend hours searching for your 2014 Honda Civic radio code. Sometimes, all you have to do is reset your radio! To reset your radio, try pressing and holding the power button for two seconds. Often, once you reset it, the radio will work again without requiring the radio code.
However, if resetting the radio doesn’t do the trick, you’ll have to find the radio code. The easiest place to start is in your glove box. You’re looking for a sticker that says “Anti-Theft Radio Code” with a five-digit code. It may also have your radio’s serial number. If you don’t see anything in your glove box, check your owner’s manual. Be sure to look for a five-digit code with numbers only; anything that is longer than five digits or has letters isn’t what you need.

How to look up a 2014 Honda Civic radio code

Even if you’ve lost your owner’s manual or the only trace of a sticker is some leftover adhesive, you can still find your radio code! All you’ll need is your Honda’s
vehicle identification number (VIN)
and the radio serial number
Your VIN is in several locations throughout your car. You can check the sticker on the driver's side door jamb or your windshield. If you have your car registration or insurance card handy, those should also list your VIN.
Once you’ve found your VIN, your radio’s serial number is next. To find a radio serial number on a 2014 Honda Civic, press and hold your radio preset buttons, one and six. As you’re doing this, you’ll need to put the key in the ignition and turn it to the ON position. Since you’ll have to do this simultaneously, you may need an extra set of hands. In a few seconds, you should see the radio serial number flash on your radio. It’ll be a 10-digit alpha-numeric code
With both numbers, you can now find what you’ve really been after, your 2014 Honda Civic radio code. Here’s how:
  • Go online to use Honda’s
    lookup tool
  • Visit your Honda dealership
  • Call Honda’s customer service line at 1-800-999-1009
