Around half of the 635 complaints made to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration about the 2013 Chevrolet Equinox had to do with its engine. Other complaints had to do with the car’s windshield wipers, powertrain, and electrical system.

No car is perfect, and the 2013 Equinox isn’t without its share of problems. But none of the common issues with this model are all that disastrous. In the 10 years since it was released, it has only been recalled twice, both in 2016.
The first recall had to do with the car’s parking lock lever, which allowed the key to be removed from the ignition without the car in “park.” If the driver accidentally removed the key while in another gear, the car could roll while passengers get out of the car, putting them at risk of injury.
The other recall involved the windshield wipers. The ball joints could corrode or wear down, rendering the wipers unusable. While no recall is ideal, these problems are easily fixed.
Other complaints mentioned issues like a lack of trunk space, fading and cracking paint, and a failing compressor that stopped the A/C from blowing cold air.
Is the 2013 Chevrolet Equinox reliable?
Despite some issues, the 2013 Equinox has above-average reliability scores across the board.
RepairPal scored it 3.5/5 and lists its annual repair costs at $498. It fared significantly better with J.D Power, who gave it a 90/100 for quality and reliability and 87/100 overall, naming it the best compact SUV of 2013.
